The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. Please restrict your baggage to one main bag (your KE Trek bag) and a small daypack.

You must bring the following items:

Causal shoes / Trainers / Sneakers or similar for onboard

Rubber boots (Wellington boots for Zodiac landings)

Waterproof ankle height walking boots & gaiters

Waterproof & windproof jacket with hood

Waterproof & windproof pants/salopettes

Trekking trousers / pants

Windproof soft shell

Baselayer fleece top and bottoms

Thermal underwear/Long Johns, top and bottoms

Casual shirt and/or T-shirts

Fleece jacket or warm jumper/sweater

Down Jacket


Socks (Warm, high wool or similar socks worn over a thin pair of silk, polypropylene socks should provide enough warmth and insulation for your feet. Bring several pairs of socks, since you will inevitably get your feet wet)


Warm hat (plus spare)


Scarf and/or neck gaiter

1 x Ski goggles (windproof)

1 x Sun glasses/glacier glasses with sides (plus spare)

Ski/mountain gloves

Windproof over mittens

2 pairs thin polypropylene gloves

Water bottles 1 Litre (1 Quart) x1

Daypack/Rucksack 25 litres (see ski mountaineering if participating in this)

Selection of dry bags (to keep rucksack contents dry)

Small padlock (to lock trek bag)

Headtorch/Headlamp with spare batteries

Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)

Washbag and toiletries

Antibacterial handwash

Seasickness remedy

Basic First Aid Kit including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, and plasters (band-aids). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

The following items are optional:

Wet wipes

Travel clothes

Camera (in a dry bag), film/memory cards, batteries


Penknife (remember to pack sharp objects in hold baggage)

Repair kit – (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)

Rucksack/backpack 35-40 ltr with loops to attach skis

Randonees skis or telemark skis

Ski mountaineering boots (with bindings and thermo inner boots)

Avalanche shovel (limited number available on request)

Ski mountaineer (pre-booking essential)

If you choose the optional Ski Mountaineering please ensure you have enough layers with you to keep you warm. You must ensure that you have all the items in the equipment list given above. Note that we cannot arrange the hire of skis or ski boots.

Participants of the ski mountaineering must be able to master techniques of alpine skiing in off piste terrain (ascent and descent). The max ratio of participants per mountain guide is 8:1. All ski mountaineers will require to submit a detailed questionnaire on their experience and also a doctors health certificate.
