This excellent new touring holiday aims to expore the best of Peru's fascinating landscapes and wealth of history. Starting in the delightful ‘White City' of Arequipa, we visit the Colca Canyon, one of the world's deepest and stay at the delightful Colca Lodge, from where we go in search of Condors, hike to local ruins and relax in some of the finest hot-springs imaginable. A spectacular drive through the altiplano brings us to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca for a boat trip to visit the floating reed islands of Uros and Taquile Island, renowned for their weavings and spectacular views. We then take one of the World's classic railway journeys from Puno across the high plains to Cusco. We spend a day exploring the town and nearby ruins of the former Inca Capital - a wonderful place to explore - full of culture, history, good restaurants and fun nightlife. Our next adventure takes us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to visit the ruins and local market at Pisac and the Inca fortress town of Ollantaytambo, before catching the train to Aguas Calientes for a whole day exploring the awe-inspiring lost city of Machu Picchu. Is this holiday for you?
This is essentially a touring trip and there are no elements of sustained trekking. There is plenty of opportunity for short hikes and while visiting various Inca sites, it will be necessary to explore some of these on foot. The holiday is suitable for any active person. Staying at comfortavle hotels throughout and with all hiking options optional, we have graded this trip as EASY.
