There are 2 official languages in the Philippines - Filipino (Tagalog) and English. There are also more than 100 other languages and diallects spoken in these islands, the great majority of which belong to the Malayo-Polynesian family of languages. Most people that you come into contact with in the Visayas Island group will speak and understand English. Very few tourists make the effort to learn any Tagalog so it will really be appreciated if you have a go. Your guide will be delighted to help you with your pronunciation. We recommend you take a pocket phrase book and practice some key phrases.

Visa Requirements

A valid passport (with at least 6 months remaining validity) is required for this trip. Visas are not required for stays up to 30 days by British, Australian, Canadian, USA or EU citizens travelling as tourists with a return airticket. Other nationalities should check with the Thai embassy or mission in their own countries. We do keep our information up to date but be advised that visa requirements are subject to change. It is recommended that you contact the relevant commission in the case of recent alterations.

You should attend your own doctor and dentist for a check-up. Your doctor will have access to the most up to date information on the required vaccinations for the country you are visiting. In general we recommend vaccinations against the following: Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid, & Hepatitis ‘A'. Malaria prophylaxis is generally recommended for visits to Vietnam. Yellow Fever vaccination is not required unless arriving from an endemic area. A very good online resource is the National Health Travellers website at
