The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. The maximum weight allowed during the first part of the trek is 10kg (22 pounds). This will be further reduced to a maximum of 7kg (15 pounds) for the final three days of trekking with excess baggage traveling via a different route to meet the group.

You must bring the following items:

Hiking boots

Gaiters

Trainers / sneakers or similar for traveling and camp use

Socks

Underwear

Trekking trousers / trekking pants

Waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants

Long johns (thermal underwear)

Thermal baselayer shirts

Casual shirts and/or T-shirts

Fleece jacket or warm jumper

Waterproof jacket

Warm jacket (down)

Sunhat

Warm hat

Eyewear - Sunglasses

Lightweight thermal gloves

Warm and waterproof outer gloves or mittens

Daypack 30 - 40 litres / 1800 – 2500 cu in.

Waterproof bag (big enough to hold sleeping bag, camping mattress and small amount of personal equipment.)

Foldaway bag (to leave travel clothes etc at the fixed camp)

Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)

Headtorch / headlamp and spare batteries

Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)

Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 quart (x2)

Washbag and toiletries

Antibacterial handwash

Small towel

4/5 season sleeping bag

Thermarest or foam camping mattress

Basic First Aid Kit including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters (band-aids) and blister treatment, insect repellent (DEET), and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).

The following items are optional:

Sleeping bag liner

Spare laces

Travel clothes

Trekking poles (recommended)

Pocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)

Repair kit – (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)

Small padlock (to lock your KE trek bag)

Camera, media, spare batteries
