Pyrenees Raid - Classic Road Bike Tour
France, Bike - Road Cycling, 9 days - from £1,495 (land only) - from €1,870 (land only) - from $2,620 (land only)
Day 1: Rendezvous at Biarritz Airport. KE Land Only package services begin with a transfer from the airport to the group hotel near Hendaye. In the afternoon we have time to assemble our bikes and enjoy a short roll-out into the countryside of Aquitaine.
Day 2: From the Atlantic coast we climb and cross into Spain making a fast descent on a road that descends towards Pamplona. We turn off at Ordoki, however, and a hairpin climb takes us over the Col de Ispeguy back into France and to our overnight stop at Mauleon-Licharre. Ride distance 106 km (66 miles) with 2300 metres of ascent and 2170 metres of descent.
Day 3: Our first challenge of the day is the steep Col de Marie Blanque (1035m) followed by a fast descent to Laruns. A further short ascent leads us to Eaux Bonnes, our overnight stop. Ride distance approximately 78 km (49 miles) with 1850 metres of ascent and 1250 metres of descent.
Day 4: A challenging day as we tackle several passes including the mighty Col du Tourmalet (2215m), the high point of the trip. A fast descent follows and another pass crossing brings us to Arreau. Ride distance 124 km (78 miles) with 3600 metres of ascent and 3430 metres of descent.
Day 5: We have a long climb to the Col de Peyresourde and drop down to Luchon, then head back into Spain via the Col du Portillon. It's downhill into France once again and we have a final crossing of the classic Col de Mente. Now in arguably the most beautiful part of the Pyrenees, we ride to St Lary. Ride distance 104 km (65 miles) with 3000 metres of ascent and 3100 metres of descent.
Day 6: A steady ascent to the Col de Core (1395m), then a lively descent to Seix. Here, in this most spectacular area, we cross 3 more cols and finish with a switchback descent to Tarascon. Ride distance 115 km (72 miles) with 2600 metres of ascent and 2800 metres of descent.
Day 7: More ascents and descents as we cross the Col de Marmare and Col de Chioula in this scenic and historic region, finishing with a spectacular descent to Prades. Ride distance 130 km (81 miles) with 3450 metres of ascent and 3600 metres of descent.
Day 8: The final two cols of our epic journey lie in the Pyrenees Orientales. Once we cross the final one, the Col Fourtou (646m), it's then downhill all the way to the Mediterranean. Ride distance 94 km (59 miles) with 1350 metres of ascent and 1700 metres of descent.
Day 9: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast and there will be a single timed group transfer to Perpignan Airport for the late afternoon flight.
