This excellent new Colorado Rockies mountain biking adventure holiday begins with 3 days of riding from a comfortable lodge base in the Tarryall Mountains. Mountain biking through alpine meadow and forest, on dirt roads and singletrack, will kick-start our acclimatisation to the local trail conditions and the 2500 metre plus elevation. We then transfer to the nearby mountain towns of Crested Butte and Gunnison and join in the festivities of the annual Crested Butte Fat Tire Week. As well as riding some of the best trails in this area, we will have the chance to take part in the 'Chainless Race' (which is exactly what it sounds like) and to attend bike demos, live music and post race parties. Then, from Buena Vista, we will enjoy 4 days in the pristine Rocky Mountains backcountry, biking across the range on wild trails such as Sheep Creek and Gold Dust. Heading ever upwards, we ride over the Continental Divide at the Georgia Pass at 11,648 feet (3550m) with the delicious prospect of a long singletrack descent on the Colorado Trail. This is a superb, custom-made mountain bike adventure holiday, with a mix of high trails that are both exhilarating and demanding. Experienced bikers who like challenging technical sections, fast rollers and extended climbs and descents will get a blast out of this one.
Is this holiday for you?
FAT TYRE ADVENTURE - This mountain bike holiday includes technical singletrack sections and some challenging climbs at moderate altitude, with short linking sections on quiet gravel forest roads. Our intention, when setting up this route, was to create a trip that would explore the best biking in the Colorado region and combine it with attending the famous ‘Crested Butte Fat Tire Week'. The resulting trip is aimed at regular, competent and reasonably fit mountain bikers who are looking for excitement and a challenge in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is not a suitable trip for beginners. Whilst we do have vehicle support throughout the trip, the support vehicle cannot always follow the riders on trail, due to the nature of the terrain. However, the support vehicle may be available if anyone wants to opt out of a big climb and the vehicle will occasionally meet us for lunch. This holiday will provide a fun challenge for regular weekend bikers with reasonable off-road skills. BIKE HIRE AVAILABLE LOCALLY.
