Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Arriving at Kayseri Airport we are met by the KE Schools Adventure leader who will arrange the 1 hour transfer to the group hotel in the traditional Cappadocian town of Mustafapasha. Dinner is served on arrival.

Day 2: Today we have a 4 - 5 hour walk starting in the Meskendir Valley. Lots of fascinating sights along the way such as old cave houses and church complexes. We cross over to the Red Valley where there are more rock hewn churches with 1000-year-old frescoes. Afterwards we return to our hotel.

Day 3: Today we will visit the Goreme Open Air Museum to see the finest examples of early Christian frescoes. Then its time for some fun mountain biking. We ride first to the best viewpoint in Cappadocia known as 'the fortress' before returning through the incredibkle 'White Valley'. The total ride including stops and visits will take around 3 - 4 hours. Overnight at the group hotel.

Day 4: Today we swop bikes for horses and ride from Avanos to Sarihidir. We travel along the banks of Turkey's longest river the Kizilirmak and follow the ancient Silk Road to the Devrent Valley with its lunar rock formations. After checking out the horse ranch at Avanos, there is the option to visit a traditional pottery studio and throw your own pots!

Day 5: We now transfer to the Taurus mountains (2 hours), stopping en-route to visit Derinkuyu underground city. Arriving in Cukurbag we take lunch and then start our trek, walking through the Cimbar Gorge and by way of the meadows at Arpalik Yayla to our overnight halt and the first night's camp. 4 - 5 hour walk.

Day 6: Trekking up to Sakartas, we then traverse to Ezenevit, our highest point at 2538 metres. After lunch we descend into the Siyirma Valley, with its cedar and juniper forests. We then continue to our campsite in the Emli Valley. 6 - 7 hours walking.

Day 7: Today's hike takes us to Mangirci Gorge via the Emli Valley. We climb up to the Alaca Yayla Plateau where we are treated to spectacular views of the southern Aladaglar region. This is a grazing area for the semi-nomadic shepherds of the area and we are likely to pass some of their camps. We descend to our final camp in the Emli Valley. 5 - 6 hours walk.

Day 8: After breakfast in camp, we transfer back to Kayseri Airport to check in for the homeward flight.

Learning Outside the Classroom

If you have a particular part of your curriculum that needs fulfilling whilst you are away, we are more than happy to work this into your itinerary. Incorporating learning objectives into your School Group Adventure allows the pupils to engage with the learning process. If you send us your list of criteria, we will write the programme for you.
