Flying into Kayseri, the trip starts with three days of trekking. The Taurus range of mountains forms a divide between Turkey's Mediterranean coast and the Anatolian Plateau. It is from this range that the great rivers of the Tigris and Euphrates spring. We trek through juniper woodland, high pastures and a spectacular canyon. We then transfer to a hotel in the town of Goreme, centred amongst the outlandish scenery of Cappadocia, famous for its weird and wonderful rock formations. Millions of years of wind, rain and frost have sculpted the areas volcanic rock into a landscape of bizarre spires and 'fairy chimneys'. After exploring the troglodyte city of Zelve we spend a morning on bikes, whirling around the rock formations in the vicinity of Goreme. Followed by horse riding on an ancient caravanserai route to some hot springs, with a visit to a potter's studio and an experience of traditional Turkish cookery and a Turkish bath. This trip provides an excellent opportunity to explore a fascinating part of Turkey that few tourists get to see.
