With its fantastic mountain landscapes and colourful mix of religions and cultures, Nepal makes the perfect destination for school group adventure. After a memorable flight to Lukla in the Khumbu region, this superb adventure begins with a week of trekking in the shadow of Mount Everest, visiting the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar and the monastery village of Thyangboche. The views from here of the dominating Ama Dablam and of Everest itself are legendary. This popular schools specific itinerary also has time for community project work in the Kathmandu area and a 2 day visit to the jungle region within the Chitwan National Park.
Educational perspective
Mount Everest was first climbed in 1953 – the Khumbu region’s fascinating mountaineering history is brought to life during this trek into the heart of the Nepal Himalaya.
Amend or Extend
Allow extra time for some hands-on work at one of the Juniper Trust’s ongoing projects, or include a visit to peaceful, lakeside Pokhara, Nepal’s second city.
Is this holiday for you?
We recommend a minimum age of 15 years
Generally, the trekking conditions on this trip are straightforward following good paths throughout. Additionally, as the Khumbu is Nepal's most popular trekking destination, the area is well supplied with tea shops, lodges and medical facilities. The trails are well used and present easy walking conditions. This trip includes only a short trek, with relatively short trekking days, and our route does not reach extreme altitudes. We allow two days to reach Namche Bazaar from Lukla and have allowed a rest day on arrival at Namche Bazaar. Flying into Lukla we anticipate that some people will feel mild symptoms of altitude sickness but our easy-paced itinerary will allow them to acclimatise quickly. This is an excellent choice for a first trek to the Nepal Himalaya. Each of our School Group Adventures is given a grade, taking into account the amount of walking involved, the difficulty of the terrain, the remoteness, the altitude and the overall length of the trip. The trips are graded on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most challenging. This trip is graded 6.
