Day 2: We make an early start for the dramatic flight through the mountains to Lukla. After lunch we have a short trek mostly downhill, to our first overnight stop in one of the lodges at Phakding (2610m).
Day 3: Following the Dudh Kosi valley upstream we cross and re-cross the river on a series of dramatic suspension bridges before making a final steep climb to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar (3440m).
Day 4: An important day for our acclimatisation at Namche. After breakfast we can walk up above the town for sensational views of Everest and to visit to the Museum of Sherpa Culture.
Day 5: We leave Namche turning first into the Nangpo Tsangpo Valley before climbing up to the airstrip at Syangboche. Climbing up above the airstrip, we cross a col to reach the Sherpa Villages of Kunde and Kumjung. After exploring these villages we descend to Kangjuma and our overnight lodge.
Day 6: We continue our trek dropping steeply downhill to a bridge over the Imja Khola (river). The final part of today is a climb through rhododendron forest to Thyangboche monastery (3860m) spectacularly located on a ridge below the impressive north ridge of Kang Taiga and with classic views of the peaks of the Khumbu including Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest.
Day 7: A rest day at Tyangboche and the opportunity to visit Nepal's most famous monastery. Hiking options today include the return trip to Pangboche, the highest settlement in the valley (5 - 6 hours). We spend a second night in the lodge at Tyangboche.
Day 8: We begin the return trek, retracing our steps to Namche and then descending to the tiny hamlet of Monjo situated at the entrance of the Sagamatha National Park.
Day 9: From Monjo we follow the Dudh Kosi river downstream to to Phakding and from here make a final climb up to the airstrip at Lukla. We check into our lodge and have our final night in the mountains. This evening we also say goodbye to our trek crew of Sherpas and local porters.
Day 10: Taking the spectacular flight over the Himalayan foothills we return to Kathmandu where we transfer to the group hotel and in the afternoon we have a guided tour of some of the city's most important sights.
Day 11: A day set aside for participation in a community project or visit to a local school.
Day 12: Depending on flight times there will be an opportunity this morning for some last minute souvenir buying in the bazaar before we transfer to the airport to check in for the homeward flight..
Learning Outside the Classroom
If you have a particular part of your curriculum that needs fulfilling whilst you are away, we are more than happy to work this into your itinerary. Incorporating learning objectives into your School Group Adventure allows the pupils to engage with the learning process. If you send us your list of criteria, we will write the programme for you.
