Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Delhi. Airport transfers are provided for all clients arriving on Day 1. KE Land Only package services begin with lunch. In the afternoon, a city sightseeing tour is provided. Alternatively, you may choose to take it easy at the hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to the domestic terminal for the onward flight to Bagdogra. We then drive to Darjeeling (2500m) and check in to our hotel.
Day 3: We have a full day to explore Darjeeling. Options include visits to Observatory Hill, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Ghoom Monastery, local bazaars, a tea plantation and a ride on the narrow gauge railway. Overnight in Darjeeling.
Day 4: We drive to Dhodray and begin our trek through rhododendron forest towards the crest of the Singalila Ridge. Our camp at Tonglu (2900m) offers good views of Kangchenjunga.
Day 5: Now on the ridge, our days involve less ascent. Today we trek, via a tea stop at the Nepalese village of Jaubari, to our second night's camp at Kalpokhari.
Day 6: A short morning's walk to the ridge-top settlement of Sandakphu (3636m), where we set up camp and have the afternoon free to relax and enjoy the panoramic views.
Day 7: After watching the sun rise over Kangchenjunga and the distant Everest group, today we hike along the broad ridge-top to our next camp at Sabargram (3425m).
Day 8: We trek northwards to the high point of the ridge at 'Singalila Peak' (3695m) for the best views of Kangchenjunga. Returning to Phalut, we drop down off the ridge to Samadeen Village.
Day 9: Our final day of trekking takes us downhill through rich farmland to a bridge across the Siri Khola, where we stop for lunch. After lunch, avoiding the most direct route to Rimbik which is now a road, we walk through forest on a good path via the village of Maneydhara, where there is a monastery. We overnight at a lodge in Rimbik.
Day 10: After saying goodby to most of our crew, we walk through the village of Maneydara for half an hour top Rimbik, where we meet our transport and set off on the fascinating drive across country to our hotel in the major market town of Kalimpong, which attracts traders from Tibet and Bhutan. In the afternoon, we have time to look around the bazaars.
Day 11: A free day in Kalimpong, with an optional guided visit to Durpin Monastery and to a paper factory. Afternoon free for independent sightseeing and souvenir shopping. We spend a second night at our hotel in the town.
Day 12: We have a reasonably early start for the drive back to Bagdogra Airport, where we check in for the flight to Delhi. Arriving in the Indian capital in the afternoon, we transfer to our hotel. Dinner and overnight at our airport accessible hotel.
Day 13: KE land only package services end after breakfast. Airport transfers are provided on this day.
This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully.
