Day 4: We drive for 2 hours to Dhodray and begin our trek through rhododendron forest and meadows towards the crest of the Singalila Ridge. Our first camp is set up at Tonglu (2900m) and offers good views of Kangchenjunga. 5 km with 600 metres of ascent and 100 metres of descent. 3 hrs trekking.

Day 5: Now on the ridge, our days involve less ascent. Today we trek, via a tea stop at the Nepalese village of Jaubari and with far-reaching views, to our second night's camp at Kalpokhari (Black Lake) (3024m). 15 km with 700 metres of ascent and descent. 5 - 6 hrs trekking.

Day 6: A short morning's walk to the ridge-top settlement of Sandakphu (3636m), where we set up camp and have the afternoon free to relax and enjoy the panoramic views of Kangchenjunga, Everest and Makalu. 7 km with 650 metres of ascent and 100 metres of descent. 3 - 4 hrs trekking.

Day 7: An early start for those who want to watch the sunrise on Kangchenjunga and the distant Everest group. Then, after breakfast, we enjoy a memorable hike along the broad ridge-top to our next camp at Sabargram (3425m). 12 km with 550 metres of ascent at 700 metres of descent. 5 hrs trekking.

Day 8: We trek northwards to the high point of the ridge at 'Singalila Peak' (3695m) for the best views of Kangchenjunga. Returning to Phalut, we drop down off the ridge to Samadeen Village. 17 km with 300 metres of ascent and 1400 metres of descent. 5 - 6 hrs trekking.

Day 9: Our final day of trekking takes us downhill through farmland to the Siri Khola, where we stop for lunch. After lunch, avoiding the most direct route to Rimbik which is now a road, we walk through forest on a good path via the village of Maneydhara, where there is a monastery. We overnight at a lodge in Rimbik. 16 km with 400 metres of ascent and 1000 metres of descent. 6 hrs trekking.

Day 10: After saying goodbye to most of our crew, we board our transport and set off on the fascinating drive across country to our hotel in the major market town of Kalimpong, which attracts traders from Tibet and Bhutan. In the afternoon, we have time to look around the bazaars.

Day 11: A free day in Kalimpong, with an optional guided visit to Durpin Monastery and to a paper factory. Afternoon free for independent sightseeing and souvenir shopping. We spend a second night at our hotel in the town.

Day 12: We have a reasonably early start for the drive back to Bagdogra Airport, where we check in for the flight to Delhi. Arriving in the Indian capital in the afternoon, we transfer to our hotel. Dinner and overnight at our airport accessible hotel.

Day 13: KE land only package services end after breakfast. Airport transfers are provided on this day.

This holiday involves going to high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 3500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude.
