School Adventure - Mount Kenya & the Samburu
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: On arrival at Nairobi Airport in the morning we will meet with the KE guide and set off on the drive north to the Laikipia Plateau. We set up camp in Samburu country with views of Mount Kenya.
Day 2: Community Project Day

Day 5: Today we meet our Samburu warriors and their camels and trek into the African wilderness. Wild camp.
Day 6: Another day with the camels, trekking to Tomlinson Rocks. We will enjoy another wild camp under the big African sky.
Day 7: Drive to the village of Chogoria on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Overnight camp.
Day 8: We use 4WD vehicles to take us part of the way up the track towards the National Park gate. For the final 10 km we walk through the varied landscape to Chogoria Gate (2,730m/8,955ft). We overnight in a banda (cottage).
Day 9: Today, we trek up through forest, passing the Urumandi Falls, to reach a moorland area and to Mugi Hill (3,640m/11,940ft) before descending to our camp at Lake Ellis (3,390m/11,120ft).
Day 10: Trek across moorland to join the Chogoria Trail, with views of Vivienne Falls and Gorges Valley. Our overnight halt is at picturesque Minto's Hut (4,200m/13,776ft).
Day 11: An early start for the ascent to Point Lenana (4985m), the trekkers summit on Mt. Kenya. Sunrise over Africa and descend to Shipton's Camp for lunch. Then via the Sirimon Route and over a ridge to the Liki North Hut (3,993m/13,100ft).
Day 12: An easy trek to rejoin the main trail and then descend to Sirimon Gate (2440m, 8,000ft.) where we camp for the night.
Day 13: Drive to our camp at Naro Moru. In the afternoon we will visit Sweetwaters Game Reserve for game viewing.
Day 14: After a morning at leisure, we will make the return drive southwards to Nairobi for some souvenir buying before transferring to the airport for the return flight to the UK, which normally departs in the late evening.
