Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Depart from the UK in the early morning and arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport in the evening. Transfer to the group hotel situated on the south-east slopes of Kilimanjaro near the Marangu Gate.

Day 2: Drive to the village of Rongai on the north side of Kili. Trek through farmland and forest to a camp at 2,600 metres / 8,530 feet at the edge of the moorland zone.

Day 3: Another short trek of 4 hours takes us to our camp (3,450m/11,315ft) close to the 'Second Cave', in sight of Kibo peak and the icefields on the crater rim.

Day 4: Another half day of walking towards the jagged summit of Mawenzi. We camp at 3600 metres in a sheltered valley near the Kikelewa Caves.

Day 5: A short trek, crossing grassy slopes with expansive views, to reach our next camping place at Mawenzi Tarn (4,300m/14,100ft), spectacularly located beneath the rocky summits of Mawenzi.

Day 6: A rest and acclimatisation day at the camp beside Mawenzi Tarn.

Day 7: Today we trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, to reach our overnight halt at the Kibo Hut (4,750m/15,580ft), directly beneath the Kibo crater wall.

Day 8: A very early start to reach the crater rim at Gilman's Point, then traverse to Uhuru Peak (5,894m/19,330ft), the high point of all Africa. Long descent via the Marangu Route to Horombo (3,720m/12,200ft).

Day 9: We encounter vegetation and pine forest on our descent to the Marangu Gate and collect our ascent certificates. We return to the group hotel for a wash up and then transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.

Day 10: The group flight arrives in the UK in the morning.
