School Trek - Kilimanjaro Rongai Route
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots (waterproof)
Gaiters
Trainers / sneakers for camp
Socks
Underwear
Trekking trousers/pants
Waterproof overtrousers / rainpants
Warm jacket (down)
Long johns (thermal underwear)
Thermal baselayers
T-shirt and/or casual shirt
Fleece jacket or warm jumper
Windproof/waterproof jacket
Thermal gloves
Warmer over-gloves or mittens
Sunhat / Warm hat
Eyewear - sunglasses
Daypack c.30 litres
Headtorch / headlamp with spare batteries
Sun protection (including for lips)
Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 quart (x2)
4 season sleeping bag*
Thermarest or similar sleeping mat*
Washbag and toiletries
Trek towel
Small padlock (to lock your KE trek bag)
Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)
Antibacterial handwash
Basic First Aid Kit including a broad spectrum antibiotic, antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, Insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).
The following items are optional:
Trekking poles (recommended)
Sleeping bag liner
Shorts
Spare laces
Nailbrush
Travel clothes
Camera, memory cards, batteries
Pen-knife (remember to put all sharp objects in hold baggage
Notes
Equipment hire / rental: Items marked * can be hired / rented through KE Adventure Travel. Please make all requests at least 6 weeks prior to the trip departure date. Hire / rental equipment is issued in Tanzania.
Hold baggage: We recommend that you do not pack your hiking boots and other essential items in hold baggage if you are transiting through Nairobi airport due to the possibility of baggage being delayed.
