Inside the Arctic Circle - Skiing the Kings Trail
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the Abisko Mountain Station on Lake TorneTrask. A complimentary group transfer from the airport in Kiruna is provided. KE group package services start with the evening meal.
Day 2: Full day of tuition, where we will take a short ski tour and try out equipment, with our mountain guide. A visit to the sauna in the afternoon. We spend a second night at Abisko.
Day 3: A relatively easy start, fairly flat and through light forest, we ski to the STF hut just south of Lake Abiskojaure. Dormitory lodging with wood fires. (15km).
Day 4: Up into the high mountains, skiing west alongside a river, then across a low col, en route to the Alesjaure Mountain Hut. Use of a Sauna in evening to relax. (20km).
Day 5: We ski a shorter distance today, but always climbing gentle slopes that feel tougher than they look. Overnight at the Tatja Hut, the highest on the King's Trail. (13km).
Day 6: Start the day climbing across the Tatja Pass (1140m). Then an easy downhill experience to the Salka Mountain Hut. Use of a Sauna again in the evening. (12km)..
Day 7: Easy skiing through the Tjaktjavagge Valley to the huts at Singi. Lodging in dorms with either gas or wood fires. (13km).
Day 8: Our final day of skiing is down to the excellent facilities of the Kebnekaise Mountain Station. There are fantastic views all day of Sweden's highest peak. (14km).
Day 9: After breakfast at Kebnekaise, there is a 1-hour snowmobile transfer to the trailhead at Nikkaluokta and a slightly longer drive to Kiruna Airport where KE group package services end.
