Inside the Arctic Circle - Skiing the Kings Trail

This was a physically and mentally fairly challenging holiday, that was also hugely rewarding. A good group, excellent guides, beautiful weather and a really unique landscape made this an unforgettable holiday. The skiing was fantastic. The snow conditions were perfect and the weather was beautiful for most of the trip. I enjoyed learning from such experienced guides how to cope with the Arctic environment.
Our guides Jorg and Soren looked after us exceptionally well. They kept us safe in a difficult environment, taught us a lot about both skiing and surviving in the mountains, helped us to bond as a team and made sure we had fun. Their care for us, enthusiasm, patience and good leadership were all excellent.
The mountain huts were basic but had everything required. We were responsible for our own cooking and hygiene for the trip, so we made sure it was good!
The bus transfers were straightforward and the mushers did a great job transporting our gear and joining in with everyone in the evenings.

Excellent organisation and logistics for the trip. The food was fantastic given the challenges and a surprise to have beer too. Husky support also excellent. The trip was harder/more challenging than I had expected however from the itinerary and talking to KE staff. Great holiday. Tougher than I had expected given I'd done a lot of skiing before including ski touring; fitness more important than skiing ability and the pace was pretty fast. I have done a number of off track ski trips including tours and expected this one to be easier due to the husky support. but it was more challenging due to the weight of the daypack, the hut duties and weather. But so well run and I came away with a real sense of achievement.
Could not have wished for better leaders. Both Jorg and Soren were fantastic - they had local knowledge, inspired confidence, were supportive and helpful, to the extent of blister inspections nightly! They really made the holiday. A massive thank you to the local guides. They were v. special. We were v.well looked after.

The leader contributed greatly to the satisfaction of the trip. His enthusiasm for being in nature and for the area was evident. Everything was well organised, he looked after us well, and it was great things were not too regimented it felt we had a bit of freedom in the trip also. I heard about it through Green Traveller. I liked the idea of a challenging holiday. I picked the company as it suited my skiing ability and thought it would include a group of similar ability. I liked the addition of the dog team with other holidays did not include.

The holiday was fantastic! The mushers and guide were excellent. All the huskies were very well cared for. The mountain hut saunas were amazing, especially as one evening we were treated to a beautiful northern lights display from the sauna window.

Fantastic trip. Had a real sense of adventure and wilderness. Most days we didn't see anyone else on the trail and had to make fresh tracks in the snow. Huts were comfortable and the need to get water and wood added to the sense of adventure. I most enjoyed the great sense of wilderness and learning a new skill (cross country skiing). The huts were fanatastic.

I had an excellent holiday and will be back for more. The husky teams were great. Jorg was an excellent leader, he built a sense of unity amongst those on the holiday in the way he divided the group for jobs, he offered encouragement and knew how to make us do more and also when to stop. He and Soren were caring about our health and remembered and checked on issues (even blisters!). Soren had a wealth of information about the location and stories to tell about the local area. I most enjoyed the challenge, the teamwork and the scenery, and the Northern Lights were spectacular.
