Snowshoeing in the Canadian Rockies & Yellowstone

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Calgary. KE Land Only package services begin with the overnight stay at the group hotel. Airport transfers are not included.
Day 2: After breakfast we drive to Kananaski Park (approx 2.5 hrs drive) where we have our first snowshoe walk. Depending on conditions we walk in the Burstall pass area or to Chester Lake. Transfer to our hotel in Canmore (1hrs). Overnight hotel Canmore.
Day 3: A day snowshoeing in the Kootenay National Park, which takes its name from the Kootenay River. Here we will snowshoe to the Stanley Glacier. On the way back to Canmore will stop in at Banff for coffee/ hot chocolate and a bit of shopping!
Day 4: We start the day with a transfer (2hrs) to the frozen Lake Louise spilling from the Victoria Glacier and surrounded by mountains. In contrast to the amount of summer visitors, winter is quiet and a haven for snowshoeing along the trails. We may walk to Lake Agnes, a pretty and remote lake circled by mountains. Overnight Lake Louise.
Day 5: Another day in the Banff National Park. Today we will snowshoe in the area around Taylor Lake and Larch Valley. Here we have a selection of backcountry trails surrounded by towering mountains and pine trees dripping in snow. Our choice will depend on the weather conditions. Overnight Lake Louise.
Day 6: An early start for our exciting walk into Johnston's Canyon. This is a short trek and we have to wear spider gravel crampons (supplied). We walk to the Upper Falls and see the frozen 30m waterfall, a spectacular sight. Back at the vehicle we have a long transfer to Whitefish, Montana, USA (approx 5.5hrs). Overnight Whitefish, Montana.
Day 7: A hearty breakfast at our lodge and then we have the morning free. There is also the option of a dog sled ride, approx 1.5 hrs, or we can walk around the town and relax. After an early lunch we have the second long stretch of driving down to Bozeman (approx 6.5hrs). Overnight Bozeman.
Day 8: An early start as we enter Yellowstone National Park for the first time. We drive to Mammoth. The road is always a source of wildlife activity, and we may see Bison and elk. We snowshoe on the terraces around Mammoth passing by view points, petrified trees and experiencing the true wilderness of this magical National Park. Overnight Mammoth for 2 nights.
Day 9: A short drive takes us to the Blacktail Plateau and Tower Junction from where we snowshoe along the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone to the half frozen Tower Falls. Today will be a real safari experiences and we are likely to have encounters with Buffalo and possibly even coyotes and wolves if we are lucky (or not...)!
Day 10: An early start today as we transfer to the west entrance of the park (3hrs) from where we will pick up our Snow Cat transfer (4hrs) to Old Faithful. Stops along the way allow us to stretch our legs and photograph this majestic scenery. In the afternoon our snowshoe walk takes us along the Biskuit Basin Trail and back through the geyser area to the hotel. Overnight Old Faithful Lodge.
Day 11: Today will be spent exploring around the geyser basin, with views of Liberty Pool, Grant Geyser and Giant Geyser as we walk all the way to Biscuit Basin. We stop for lunch at Mystic Falls and return to Old Faithful via Daisy Geyser. Return to the Old Faithful Lodge.
Day 12: We have time for a last short snowshoe trip on the Fern Cascade Loop, before we transfer by Snow Cat back to West Yellowstone (4hrs) , and then from here back to Bozeman (2hrs). In Bozeman we have a farewell dinner in one of the local restaurants. Overnight Bozeman.
Day 13: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel. Airport transfers are not included.
Please note that one departure starts in Calgary and finishes in Bozeman and the next departure will start in Bozeman and finish in Calgary.
