Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Calgary. KE Land Only package services begin with the overnight stay at the group hotel. Airport transfers are not included.
Day 2: After breakfast we drive to Kananaski Park (approx 2.5 hrs drive) where we have our first snowshoe walk. Depending on conditions we walk in the Burstall pass area or to Chester Lake. Transfer to our hotel in Canmore (1hrs). Overnight hotel Canmore.
Day 3: Below the snow-covered Mount Haling we follow the Goat Creek Trail on our snowshoes. Passing through pine forests heavy with snow we see Mount Rundle and Sulphur to reach Banff Mountain. We end the day with a hot chocolate in Banff. Return to hotel in Canmore.
Day 4: We start the day with a transfer (2hrs) to the frozen Lake Louise spilling from the Victoria Glacier and surrounded by mountains. In contrast to the amount of summer visitors, winter is quiet and a haven for snowshoeing along the trails. We may walk to Lake Agnes, a pretty and remote lake circled by mountains. Overnight Lake Louise.
Day 5: An hour's drive takes us to the Yoho Valley with Emerald Lake and Lake O'Hara. Here we have a selection of backcountry trails surrounded by towering mountains and pine trees dripping in snow. Our choice will depend on the weather conditions. Overnight Lake Louise.
Day 6: An early start for our exciting walk into Johnston's Canyon. This is a short trek and we have to wear spider gravel crampons (supplied). We walk to the Upper Falls and see the frozen 30m waterfall, a spectacular sight. Back at the vehicle we have a long transfer to Whitefish, Montana, USA (approx 5.5hrs). Overnight Whitefish, Montana.
Day 7: A hearty breakfast at our lodge and then we have the morning free. There is also the option of a dog sled ride, approx 1.5 hrs, or we can walk around the town and relax. After an early lunch we have the second long stretch of driving down to Bozeman (approx 6.5hrs). Overnight Bozeman.
Day 8: An early start as we enter Yellowstone National Park for the first time. We drive to Mammoth. The road is always a source of wildlife activity, and we may see Bison and elk. We snowshoe on the terraces around Mammoth passing by view points, petrified trees and experiencing the true wilderness of this magical National Park. Overnight Mammoth for 2 nights.
Day 9: An exciting transfer this morning in the enormous Snow Cat as many of the roads in the park are not cleared from snow. The Snow Cat takes us to our trail head at Indian Creek from where we walk across the plateau with some stunning views over to the mountains beyond. Another unforgettable day. We return to our hotel at Mammoth Hot Springs.
Day 10: An early start today as we transfer to the west entrance of the park (3hrs) from where we will pick up our Snow Cat transfer (4hrs) to Old Faithful. Stops along the way allow us to stretch our legs and photograph this majestic scenery. In the afternoon our snowshoe walk takes us along the Biskuit Basin Trail and back through the geyser area to the hotel. Overnight Old Faithful Lodge.
Day 11: A short snow cat transfer takes us to our trailhead and we snowshoe the Spring Creek Trail to Divide Lookout. From here we walk to the Lone Star Geyser which erupts with some considerable force every 5 hrs. With some luck we'll time it right! Return to the Old Faithful Lodge.
Day 12: We have time for a last short snowshoe trip on the Fern Cascade Loop, before we transfer by Snow Cat back to West Yellowstone (4hrs) , and then from here back to Bozeman (2hrs). In Bozeman we have a farewell dinner in one of the local restaurants. Overnight Bozeman.
Day 13: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel. Airport transfers are not included.
Please note that one departure starts in Calgary and finishes in Bozeman and the next departure will start in Bozeman and finish in Calgary.
