The rocky desert territory of Sinai, with its impressive peaks and rich history, provides a superb setting for this new 1-week trekking holiday. Together with our Bedouin guides and team of baggage camels, we follow pilgrims' trails into a sandy wilderness of wadis and ravines. Our trek takes us to dry-stone villages, hidden gardens and natural pools, then upwards across pink granite slopes to the ruined Ottoman castle on top of Mount Abbas Pasha. We will also climb Mount Saint Catherine (2641m), the highest on the peninsula, before going on to tackle the hundreds of stone steps leading to the summit of Mount Moses (Mount Sinai), where Moses received the 'Ten Commandments'. Then, after checking out the ancient icons and manuscripts at Saint Catherine's Monastery, we will return to the coast and enjoy an evening at the laid-back Red Sea resort of Sharks Bay, with a final morning at the beach and the chance of a swim, before heading home. A short and accessible walking holiday that offers the very best of Sinai!

On this trip we hike into a desert world that has been home to the nomadic Bedouin people for generations. We will follow a little-used route between remote camps, traversing hidden wadis and visiting oases, with a team of camels to carry our baggage. We will be trekking on scant trails and the underfoot conditions will include dry, rocky terrain as well as open sandy desert. Ascending to the highest Sinai summits, we will also encounter sections of narrow trail and easy scrambling, as well as easy pilgrims' paths, with stepped sections. The walking is generally not difficult and we will walk for an average of 5 hours on each of days 2 to 7, with a reasonable amount of ascent and descent. Because this is a short trip and at low altitude, we have given it the MODERATE grade.
