The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You should dress conservatively when in towns, so as not to offend Muslim sensibilities vests, skimpy shorts and tight fitting clothes should be avoided. Local people dress conservatively, and the display of exposed flesh eg. Legs and shoulders are considered offensive. Whilst trekking in the desert, shorts and t-shirts are OK.
You must bring the following items:
3 season sleeping bag
Thermarest or similar camping mattress
Hiking boots/Approach shoes
Water bottles 1 litre/1 quart x 2 (2 litres total)
Training shoes or sandals for sightseeing and camp use
Socks
Trekking trousers / pants
Lightweight waterproof overtrousers / rainpants
Underwear
Shorts
Travel pants
At least 1 long sleeve shirt with collar (for sun protection)
T-shirts
Warm jacket (eg. Fleece)
Lightweight waterproof jacket
Sunhat
Warm hat (for chilly evenings in the desert)
Sunglasses
Daypack of approx. 30 litres / 1800 cubic inches capacity
Headtorch / headlamp with spare bulb and batteries
Basic First Aid Kit - refer to trip dossier for details
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
Lighter/matches for burning toilet paper
Insect repellant
Washbag and toiletries
Wet Wipes
Antibacterial handwash

Thermarest (a foam mattress is provided)
Trekking poles
Pocket-knife (note: always pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
