School Adventure - In the Simien Mountains
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Depart UK in the evening.
Day 2: Arrive in Addis Ababa (2200m). Transfer to the group hotel. City tour in the afternoon. Overnight at the hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Return to the airport for the internal flight to Gondar (2300m), former capital. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon sightseeing. (B/L/D)
Day 4: Drive to the market town of Debark (2700m). Enter the Simien Mountain National Park. Drive to Senkaber. Camp. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Trek via Michwahtis Valley to Geech. En route we make a short diversion to see impressive sight of the Jinbar River plummeting into the Geech Abyss. Camp (3600m). (B/L/D)
Day 6: Leave our camp set up at Geech and make a day hike to one of the finest viewpoints in the area, the promontory and small peak known as Imetgogo (3925m). (B/L/D)
Day 7: Following the edge of the escarpment we trek via the high point at Inatye (4070m) to Chenek. Camp. (B/L/D)
Day 8: Trek up towards Amba Bhawit (4477m) and descend to the Meshawa Valley. We cross the river and climb steeply up to village of Ambiquo (c.4000m). Camp. (B/L/D)
Day 9: A dawn start for those that choose to climb to the summit of Ras Deshen (4620m). Return to campsite at Ambiquo. (B/L/D)
Day 10: Return trek to Chiro Leba. Cultural exchange at the school. (B/L/D)
Day 11: Return to camp at Chenek on a different trail skirting around the ridge of Amba Bhawit. Altitude at camp c.4000m. (B/L/D)
Day 12: Drive approximately 4 hours to Gondar. Afternoon free for further sightseeing or relaxing. Hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 13: Morning flight to Lalibela. After lunch we have a sightseeing tour including the rock temples known as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. Hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 14: A second day for sightseeing in the city once known as "New Jerusalem". Hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 15: Fly to Addis Ababa. Free day. Day-rooms and facilities of hotel are available. After dinner, transfer to the airport for flight home. (B/L/D)
Day 16: Arrive back in the UK
