Day 1: Arriving at Colombo Airport we are met by a KE representative. KE land only package services start with a transfer to Sigiriya. We then have the rest of the day to relax. Overnight hotel.

Day 2: This morning we visit the ancient capital city of Polonnaruwa, famous for its temples and man-made lakes. In the afternoon we climb to the top of the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya with it's amazing frescoes and fabulous views over the countryside. Overnight in the group hotel.

Day 3: After breakfast we depart for Kandy, the home of the Temple of the Tooth, Sri Lanka's sacred relic. On the way we visit the cave temples at Dambulla. Overnight in Kandy

Day 4: This morning we transfer to the pristine Knuckles mountain range. Here we set up our campsite which will be our base for the next 2 nights. The camp is located high on the slopes with great views of the Knuckles Valley. This afternoon we have a 3-4 hour walk through the villages and forests which surround Sphinx Eyrie. We return to the campsite for dinner.

Day 5: Our walk today takes us to small villages which are only accessible by foot. We trek for 3 to 4 hours through scrub jungle and forest to the little farming village of Meemure, deep in the Knuckles Valley. We visit the village and have a dip to cool off in the nearby streams before setting back off down to the campsite.

Day 6: We leave our campsite and drive to 'Corbett's Gap' where we have some amazing views of the island. We then continue to Maskeliya at the base of Adam's Peak for an early dinner and some rest before our early start tomorrow.

Day 7: We begin our climb at around 2am and ascend Adams peak during the night so that we are at the summit for dawn and a once in a lifetime sunrise. From December to May pilgrims climb the mountain and the path is lined with small kiosks selling hot buns and tea for the barefooted pilgrims walking past. We return for breakfast and a rest before transferring to the old colonial town of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 8: After breakfast we enjoy an amazing 3-4 hour trek in the Horton Plains to 'Worlds End' and 'Baker Falls'. Horton Plains National Park is magical with its misty mountains, grasslands, marshes, icy streams, lakes and waterfalls. At 'Worlds End' the plateau drops off 1000m and we see the delightful waterfalls - Baker Falls. In the afternoon we transfer to the hotel in Bandarawela.

Day 9: We have a short transfer into the Namunukula Range where we trek through tea country and down through villages and farms to the 'Dry Zone' at Hingurukaduwa. 6 hours walk. After a short transfer to Monaragala lake temple we can take part in temple rituals and enjoy a meditation session before staying overnight in the temple dormitory.

Day 10: Our trek today takes us through an unspoilt region of south eastern Sri Lanka. We make a facinating walk through farms and villages that are not used to seeing visitors. This area is also teeming with bird and animal life. After the walk (6 hours) we transfer to our beach resort at Arugam Bay.

Day 11: After a morning at leisure to enjoy the beach, we visit Panama Village on the northern edge of the Yala National Park. This village close to a lake has also been off the tourist map during the conflict. We take a walk around the lake. The area is teeming with wildlife and being close to Yala NP we may even encounter elephants. After the visit we return to Arugam Bay.

Day 12: We drive through through the Lunugamwehera National Park along the eastern border of the Yala National Park to Tissamaharama. In the afternoon we can take a jeep safari in Yala NP. Overnight Chandrika Hotel, Tissamaharama.

Day 13: After breakfast we visit holy city of Kataragama. We then stop at Galle to explore the old Dutch fort and walk along the impressive ramparts. Finally we drive to Induruwa on the south west coast where we check into our hotel.

Day 14: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast and transfer to the airport.
