School Adventure - Tour du Mont Blanc

- A School Adventure in the spectacular secenery of the Alps
- Spectacular views of Mont Blanc
- Overnight at the Cabane dOrny Mountain Refuge
- Tough days hike across the Fenetre dArpette
- One of the world`s great long-distance walks
At the junction of France, Italy and Switzerland, the glaciated massif of Mont Blanc is circled by one of the world’s great long-distance walks – the Tour du Mont Blanc. We have incorporated a number of scenic variants in our School Adventure, opting to take the high-level route where possible. En route, we stay in a mix of basic hotels and comfortable mountain refuges, many of them dramatically situated, like the Cabane d’Orny and the lakeside Chalet du Lac Blanc. Expect breathtaking views, Alpine meadow trails, picturesque hamlets and an abundance of colourful wildflowers.
Educational perspective
Thrust up by the ongoing collision of the European and African tectonic plates and eroded by 2 million years of glaciation, the landscape of the European Alps reflects these conflicting processes.
Amend or Extend
A shorter and easier version of the Tour du Mont Blanc can be completed in just 8 days, using valley-based accommodation, picking out the best of the daily stages and with limited vehicle transfers.
Is this holiday for you?
We recommend a minimum age of 15 years
This School Adventure is a challenging Alpine trek, mostly on good trails, but with some rougher terrain in places. We will walk around 16 kilometres each day, with a lot of ascent and descent. There are some long days, crossing high passes and only fit and active school groups should consider this itinerary. Accommodation is in mountain hotels and refuges, some of which are not accessible by vehicle. This means that on some nights, the group will not have access to their baggage and will have to carry personal clothing and other items of gear. However, this is by no means a back-packing trip, as sleeping bags and camping equipment are not needed. Carrying a minimum of gear, including a sheet sleeping bag, you should be able to keep the packed weight of rucksack to around 8 kilograms. Each KE School Adventure is given a grade, taking into account the amount of walking involved, the difficulty of the terrain, the remoteness, the altitude and the overall length of the trip. The trips are graded on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most challenging. This trip is graded 6.
