School Adventure - Vietnam North to South

Day 1: On arrival in Hanoi we will be met and transferred to the hotel. Depending on flight times we may have some time in the afternoon for some exploration. We have dinner at the hotel and a briefing.
Day 2: Today we will enjoy a tour of the city of Hanoi, visiting the atmospheric "Old Quarter", the Temple of Literature, Tran Quoc Pagoda and the Art Museum. Before dinner we'll see the famous Water Puppet Theatre show. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 3: After a morning visit to Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum we will depart in the to Quan Hoa, near the Laos border, travelling via karst outcrop scenery and lush vegetation. On arrival, we walk to Ban Hang Village where we spend the night in homestay accommodation. Approximately 3 hours trekking.
Day 4: A full day of trekking as we explore the area's lush jungle vegetation and limestone peaks. Overnight homestay accommodation in Kho Muong Village. 6 to 7 hours walking
Day 5: After visiting a bat cave, thought to be lucky by the local people, we return via jungle and rice paddies to Huou Village where we spend the night. 5 to 6 hours walking.
Day 6: An easy walk from Huou Village to Pho Doan by a well-marked trail. After lunch at a local restaurant, we transfer by vehicle to Ninh Binh. Overnight at a simple hotel. Approximately 2 to 3 hours walking and 6 hours driving.
Day 7: A day to explore Tam Coc, the so-called 'Halong Bay on Land'. We take a sampan cruise through the complex system of canals and caves. Later we enjoy a cyling tour, before arriving in Tam Coc by rowing boat. Overnight hotel.
Day 8: We drive to Halong Bay through the heart of the Red River Delta. Boarding our private boat, we set sail to explore UNESCO World Heritage Site Halong Bay with it's 3000 islands. Seafood dinner and overnight aboard the boat.
Day 9: This morning we sail through the bay to a floating village that is home to local fishermen. Later we sail back to the port and then return by vehicle to Hanoi in time to take the "Reunification Express" sleeper train to Hue. Overnight on the train.
Day 10: We arrive in Hue, one of Vietnam's most beautiful cities, in the early morning. After breakfast at a local restaurant we'll visit the Forbidden Citadel, Emperor Tu Doc's tomb, and the Tu Hieu Pagoda. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 11: Boarding a boat, we cruise the Perfume River, stopping off at Dong Ba market to buy the ingredients for this afternoon's cooking class! Arriving at Thuy Bieu, we moor the boat and go ashore for our cooking class. Dinner will be the dishes prepared by the group. Overnight on board the boat.
Day 12: Transfer to Hue for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Transfer to the Mekong Delta, known as the "rice bowl" of Vietnam, with it's 9 "arms" of the river. We board a boat to transfer to Mekong Lodge, where we'll spend the night next to the river in charming bungalows. In the afternoon, there's time for a walk or cycle tour of the surrounding area. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 13: We board a sampan and visit the floating market of Cai Be, where local people exchange their produce : fruit, maize, sugar cane and rice. Stopping off again, we visit a Khmer Temple on an island before taking lunch and transferring by vehicle to Saigon. Overnight hotel.
Day 14: In the morning we enjoy a city tour, visiting the temple of the Jade Emperor, Reunification Palace and the lively Binh Tay Market. The rest of the day is free our transfer to Ho Chi Minh Airport.
