School Adventure - Berber Villages & Toubkal
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: On arrival at Marrakech Airport, we will be met by a representative of our local agent and take the short transfer to the group hotel in the centre of Marrakech. Dinner will be at a nearby restaurant or in the hotel followed by a trip briefing from the KE leader.
Day 2: Transfer to the High Atlas Mountains heading for the Valley of Goundafa. We meet our guide and muleteers in the village of Taghbart. After lunch we walk to the village of Tararouiste (1600m). Overnight at gite. 3 hours walking, 300m ascent.
Day 3: Our first full day of trekking will take us through the foothills, crossing a couple of passes, including the Tizi n'Tfourikhte (2100m) and Tizi n'Guidi (2000m). We descend towards the oued n'Fis through almond and fig groves. Camp overnight in Amssalane (1800m). 5 hours trekking, 650m of ascent, 400m of descent.
Day 4: We spend today in the village of Amssalane doing a cultural exchange. We learn about the local way of life and visit the local school. Overnight camping in Amssalane.
Day 5: We start the day descending the Tkent valley to the village of Tizgui (1930m). After lunch there is a steady ascent before descending to the village of Tiziane through a forested valley. Overnight camp in Tiziane (1500m). 6 hours trekking, 400m ascent, 500m descent.
Day 6: Today we start with a trek to the magical village of Azaden with its terraced fields and red ochre houses. After setting up camp in Tizi Ouseem we climb up to the waterfalls at Ighouliden (2300m) at 50m these are the largest falls in the Atlas range. 5 hours trekking.
Day 7: Today we set off towards the Azaden valley crossing the tizi N'Zik (2490m). Mount Toubkal is now in sight. We arrive at Ait Souka in the Imlil Valley. Overninght at a comfortable gite. 5 hours walking, 550m ascent, 400m descent.
Day 8: Today we head towards Mount Toubkal. Walking up valleys and past remote villages along zig-zag paths we arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (3200m). We camp on one of the level sites below the refuge. 5 hours walking.
Day 9: The ascent of Mount Toubkal. After an early breakfast we set off on the steep ascent. Crossing scree and boulder-fields we will reach the summit (4167m) in four hours. We return to the campsite for lunch and then head back to the gite in Ait Souke. 9 hours walking.
Day 10: Short walk to Imlil to meet our transport back to Marrakech and the group hotel. There will be sightseeing tour of the amazing Arabic Quarter in the afternoon and in the early evening we will watch the remarkable central square of the Djemaa-el-Fna come alive.
Day 11: We transfer to Marrakech Airport to check in for the homeward flight.
