Walking Sicily and the Aeolian Islands

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Catania. A single, timed group transfer from Catania Airport is provided with the local guide accompanying the group on the public bus to the hotel. KE group package services begin with dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 2: We take the hydrofoil from Milazzo to the fantastic island of Vulcano, referred to as `the workshop of the Fire God Vulcan` by the ancient Romans! The island is famous for its black beaches and thermal springs! After trekking up to the crater rim, we can visit the hot springs before hopping on the hydrofoil to Lipari, our next island, where we check in at our appartment accommodation.
Day 3: We catch the morning hydrofoil to the `green` island of Salina and from the Port of Rinella take the bus to Val di Chiesa. We enjoy a memorable hike through pine and birch trees to the top of Fossa delle Felci (960m), the highest peak in these islands. In the afternoon, we take the hydrofoil back to Lipari and our accommodation.
Day 4: In the morning, we explore the south-west coast of Lipari, hiking down to the southern tip to the spectacular cliffs. In the afternoon we take the afternoon ferry to fiery Stromboli. After checking-in to our hotel, we'll have time to take take a stroll on the island's black volcanic beaches. This evening we head to a local pizzeria for dinner!
Day 5: In the morning we have time to visit the village of San Vincenzo and the very interesting Vulcanology Centre. This afternoon is a highlight of the week as the plan is to make an ascent (activity dependent) of Stromboli (924m) with a certified volcano guide! Our evening meal will be a picnic on Stromboli before descending down in the dark with our head torches on for a second night on Stromboli.
Day 6: This morning we have a leisurely start before taking the hydrofoil back to Milazzo. We then tansfer to pretty Taormina, descrided as one of the most beautiful villages on Italy. We'll have free time to explore the beautiful historical centre and famous Greek theatre. In the afternoon, we continue our transfer to our hotel, situated at 1900 metres on the southern slopes of UNESCO Mount Etna!
Day 7: Today we walk directly from our hotel on a fantastic day-hike on the southern slopes of Mount Etna, crossing cinder cones and extinct craters. Walking on Etna takes us to high vantage points, each offering wonderful panoramas of Sicily's southern coastline. We return to our hotel and take the public bus to our hotel in Catania. After checking-in, we head out for our final group dinner.
Day 8: After breakfast, there is a group transfer to Catania Airport by public bus with the local guide. KE Land Only package services end on arrival at Catania Airport.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
