The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.

You must bring the following items:

Approach shoes or trekking boots

Mountaineering boots rigid enough to fit crampons securely

Gaiters

Socks

Underwear

Trainers or sandals for camp

Trekking trousers

Waterproof overtrousers

Waterproof jacket

Long johns (thermal underwear)

Thermal baselayer shirts

T-shirts and/or casual shirts

Fleece jacket or warm jumper

Warm jacket (down)

Sunhat

Warm hat or balaclava

Eyewear-Sunglasses

Thermal gloves

Warmer overgloves or mittens

Small padlock (to lock trek bag)

Daypack 40 litres

Headtorch with spare battery

Sun protection (including for lips)

Water bottles 1 litre / 1 quart (x2)

Washbag and toiletries

Antibacterial hand wash

Small towel

Sleeping bag rated to -10 C

Crampons

Climbing harness with one screwgate karabiner

Ice axe

Basic First Aid Kit: including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters (band-aids) and blister treatment, insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea.

The following items are optional:

Spare laces

Camera, media, spare batteries

Trekking poles

Thermos flask

Insect repellant – (DEET)

Penknife (remember to pack sharp objects in hold luggage)

Sleeping bag liner

Thermarest (Foam sleeping mats are provided)
