Mountain Biking into the Golden Triangle
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at Bangkok Airport. KE Land Only package services begin with the domestic flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Day 2: After a lie in and a late breakfast we take a short and pleasant ride through Mango orchards to reach our resort at Doi Saket and relax by the pool. Ride distance 23 km (14 miles).
Day 3: We start with a boat journey and then take an outstanding ride through a Teak forest, followed by backcountry roads to Chiang Dao. More chilling by the pool at our overnight resort. Ride distance 60 km (38 miles).
Day 4: Starting at Chiang Dao caves we follow tribal trails and meet Akha, Lisu, Lau and Palung people on the way. An afternoon of outstanding mountain trails takes us to our Thai Inn. Ride distance 75 km (47 miles).
Day 5: Short tarmac section to Tub Tao caves and a scenic ride on to Mae Salak eventually reached by boat upriver. Here we stay in Bamboo cottages with great views and a pool of course! Ride distance 82 km (51 miles).
Day 6: Bikes, boats and elephants. First a long-tail boat ride, then riverside biking to a Karen village, onward by elephant back to a remote Jakhu village, authentic tribal dinner from our hosts. Ride distance 28 km (17 miles).
Day 7: After experiencing tribal village life first hand, we trek through the forest and transfer to Chiang Rai where we make the Mae Salong ascent by bike. Overnight in nearby resort. Ride distance 18 km (11 miles).
Day 8: An exceptional ride today. Initially ascending to a hill top temple, eventually followed by a huge downhill blast and onto our our overnight accommodation. Ride distance 48 km (30 miles).
Day 9: One of the most spectacular rides. Starting in lychee orchards we climb Doi Tung (1513m/4964ft) eventually leading to a long, fast descent and onto Sop Ruak and a first-class resort. Ride distance 92 km (57 miles).
Day 10: We enjoy a Golden Triangle sightseeing ride to Chiang Saen beside the Mekong River and have views across Laos and Myanmar. Afternoon transfer to the group hotel in Chiang Mai. Ride distance 40 km (25 miles).
Day 11: Saving the best for last we thrill on the Wat Doi Suthep downhill and a fitting finale to our ride. Returning to Chiang Mai, we then fly to Bangkok for a night on the town. Ride distance 42 km (26 miles).
Day 12: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast with a single timed, early morning, group transfer to Bangkok International Airport.
