Tour de Monte Rosa Trek
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Saas Grund, near Saas Fee. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: A gentle walk around Lake Mattmark leads to an ascent of Monte Moro pass where we have a first view of Monte Rosa. We then make a steep descent to our hotel in the village of Macugnaga.
Day 3: We follow the Anza River and pass Quarazza Lake to reach Alpine pastures beneath impressive waterfalls. Crossing the Colle Del Turlo, we then descend to overnight at the Rifugio Pastore.
Day 4: Ascending the Vallon Delle Pisse, we cross the Bocetta Delle Pisse, to Alpe Pianlunga. A steady ascent of the Valle D'Olen then leads to the mountain refuge of Vigevano.
Day 5: Cross the Colle D'Olen and descend through forest and meadow to Gressoney Stafal. We then climb to the Colle di Bettaforca and descend to a refuge in the hamlet of Resy.
Day 6: Trek to the Colle Superieur delle Cime Blanche, with views of the Matterhorn and on up to our highpoint at the Colle del Teodulo (3290m / 10,794ft) and our refuge for the night.
Day 7: Descend the Theodule Glacier with fine views of the Matterhorn and Weisshorn. At Gandegg, we head down to the group hotel in Zermatt. Free afternoon for sightseeing.
Day 8: A traverse high above the Mattertal Valley with some exposed sections protected by cables and chains leads to the Europahutte above the valley town of Randa.
Day 9: We continue the valley traverse towards the Riedgletscher where we make a steep descent through woods to our overnight stop at a village hotel in Grachen.
Day 10: Ascending to Hannigalp we follow the Hohenwegg path, high above the Saastal. Directly ahead are the Weissmies and Lagginhorn as we complete our trek full circle into Saas Grund.
Day 11: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel.
Altitude
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
