On Foot in the Serengeti
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.
You must bring the following items:
Hiking boots
Trainers / sneakers or sandals for camp
Socks
Underwear
Trekking trousers / pants
Waterproof overtrousers / rainpants
Windproof/waterproof jacket
Thermal baselayer shirts (2 short sleeve, 2 long sleeve)
Shirts or T-shirts
Fleece jacket or warm jumper
Sunhat (wide brimmed)
Warm hat
Eyewear - Sunglasses
Lightweight thermal gloves
Small padlock (to lock your trek bag)
Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)
Daypack c. 30 - 40 litres / 2000 - 2500 cu. in.
Head-torch / head-lamp with spare batteries
Basic First Aid Kit - refer to trip dossier for details
Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc)
Water bottles 1 Litre / 1 Quart (x2)
Wash bag and toiletries
Small towel
Antibacterial handwash
3 season sleeping bag (for June August departures)*
2 season sleeping bag (for Sept May departures)*
Thermarest or similar sleeping mat*
The following items are optional:
Spare laces
Trekking poles
Insect repellant (DEET)
Camera, media, spare batteries
Penknife (remember to pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
Repair kit (eg. needle, thread, duct tape)
Sleeping bag liner
Shorts
Travel clothes
