Vesuvius, Pompeii & the Amalfi Coast
Italy, Trek & Walk, 8 days - from £895 (land only) - from €1,255 (land only) - from $1,460 (land only)
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group guest-house in Agerola, Amalfi. There will be a single-timed airport transfer from Naples to Agerola for clients arriving on this day. The rural and traditional town of Agerola on the spectacular Amalfi coast, offers a real insight into true Italian life! During a relaxed dinner we will receive a briefing from our KE leader.
Day 2: The rural dwelling of Agerola provides the perfect base for us to explore the Lattari Mountains. Walking on mule tracks through farmland, forest and terraces of lemons and grapes we reach a number of spectacular vantage points of the Amalfi Coast, stretching as far as the Island of Capri and the Sorrentine Peninsula. En-route back to our guesthouse we have time to test locally produce limoncello.
Day 3: This morning we take a private transfer to Pompeii, destroyed by Vesuvius and a highlight of the week. We'll have time to explore this atmospheric 'sleeping' Roman town, Europe`s most compelling archaeological site. After lunch we'll drive up onto Mount Vesuvius. We take a short hike onto the crater rim where there are also spectacular views across the Bay of Naples and across to Pompeii.
Day 4: Today we walk a special trail through the 'Iron Valley' passing woodland and, if we are lucky, species of orchid. Our trail leads to a hidden moss-clad waterfall before a stepped ascent amongst lemon groves sees us arriving in the picture postcard town of Amalfi. Here we'll have free time to explore the piazza, visit the magnificent cathedral or take a quick and cooling dip in the Med!
Day 5: Today is a free day and your KE leader will be able to talk to you on free day options. You may decide to venture down to Amalfi port and take a ferry to either Positano or the Isle of Capri. Or alternatively, visit the superbly preserved town of Herculanuem, once buried by the eruption of Vesusius 79AD and, whose decorative and beautiful buildings were much better preserved than Pompeii.
Day 6: We begin the day Italian style by taking the public bus to Amalfi and the start of today's walk. After ascending through the 'Valley of the Mills,' we enjoy an excellent hike to the jewel of Amalfi, Ravello. With picture postcard views, beautiful gardens and Bohemian history, Ravello is the crowning centre-piece of Amalfi! A private transfer takes us back to Agerola.
Day 7: A fantastic end to the week as we hike `The Walk of the Gods!` An ancient terraced mule path and walking highlight, the famed Walk of the Gods links the picturesques villages of the Amalfi Coast, from Agerola to the perfect pink town of Positano. This pastel coloured paradise is dotted with fig and olives trees. On returning to Agerola, we prepare and learn the history of pizza making!
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. A single shuttle bus transfer to Naples Airport is provided.
