Vietnam - Mount Fansipan and Halong Bay

Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Hanoi. A single timed airport transfer is provided. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner.
Day 2: In the morning there will be a walking tour of the city. Afternoon visit to Ethnology Museum, then free time to explore the delightul Old Quarter centred around Hoan Kiem, with its streets of different traders. After dinner we take the overnight train to Lao Cai.
Day 3: Arrive Lao Cai in the early morning and transfer to Sapa, a former French hill-station and home to a range of ethnic groups. After breakfast, we enjoy a walk through the Y Linh Ho and Muong Hoa Valleys visiting Black Hmong and Giay villages. Approximately 6 hours easy walking. Overnight in Sapa.
Day 4: After a short transfer to the Black Hmong village of Sin Chai, we begin our trek to Fansipan following a good trail through the bamboo forest. We cross several ridges and have to ford the occasional stream. As we gain altitude we enter the cloud forest and after approximately 6 hours walking we arrive at our camp at 2200 metres from where we can enjoy views of the forested ridges and valleys.
Day 5: From our camp the marked trail is steep in places as we climb the final 940 metres to the summit of Fansipan. The views from the summit extend to Laos and China on a good day! After the summit we begin the descent iniitially by the same path to a camp at 2800m. Approx. 8 hours walking.
Day 6: We descend back to our previous camp at 2200m. and then take a different route off the mountain. This is the normal 'tourist' trail and we will encounter many steps and handrails down to Tram Ton where we meet our vehicles and drive back to Sapa. We check into our hotel and relax. 4 - 5 hours walking.
Day 7: In the early morning we transfer to Bac Ha, to visit the famous and colourful Sunday Market. The market is a weekly meeting point for the villagers from the surrounding hills who congregate to sell their produce and handicrafts. In the afternoon we'll explore the town on foot. Overnight in a hotel in Bac Ha.
Day 8: Today we'll leave Bac Ha on foot to hike to Coc Ly village, enjoying the splendid mountain scenery and taking a picnic lunch en route. In the afternoon we'll board a boat on the Chay River and cruise downstream to Bao Nhai from where we will transfer to Lao Cai to catch the overnight train to Hanoi.
Day 9: Arriving in Hanoi in the early morning we transfer to Halong Bay. here we board our traditional junk to explore the outcrops and islets of the bay. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 10: A full day to cruise and kayak in the Bay. We'll return to the Junk for lunch, and in the afternoon we'll visit a floating fishing village. Return to the Junk for a second overnight in cabins.
Day 11: In the morning we can explore more by kayak, cruising to Man's Head Island and Tortoise Island where we can paddle into Luon Cave. After lunch we make the return transfer to Hanoi where we check into a hotel and have a celebratory final dinner of Vietnamese cuisine at a local restaurant.
Day 12: KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. A transfer to the airport will be provided around lunch time for clients travelling on the preferred group flights.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
