Dolomites Via Ferrata
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Cortina. KE Land Only package services begin with the evening meal taken at our hotel or a nearby restaurant. Overnight in Cortina.
Day 2: We take the bus to Misurina where we follow the Bonacossa track to the sensationally located Fonda Savio hut (2367m). Overnight at the hut. 2.5 hours walking. 600 metres ascent.
Day 3: From the Fonda Savio hut we walk to the base of the Cima del Cadin where we gear up for Via Merlone. We climb the ladders and wires of the Merlone for 300 metres to the summit for views of the Tres Cime de Laverado and then continue on the Bonacossa track to the Lavaredo hut (2344m) Walking/climbing time: 6 hours. +700 m. / -730 m.
Day 4: We climb the via Delle Forcelle to the summit of Monte Paterno (2746m) and descend the Innerkofler route including sections of World War 1 tunnels, to reach the Locatelli hut. 6 - 7 hours. +700m. / -730m.
Day 5: From the hut we make an ascent of the Torre di Toblin via the Sentiero delle Scalette - a WW1 military way. Returning to the Locatelli refuge we have some time to rest and relax and admire the spectacular view from the hut terrace. 3 hours. + / - 400m.
Day 6: Today we follow part of the 150km long Alta Via to the col de Tre Croci where we take a cable car up to the Lorenzi hut. We then make an ascent and descent of the via ferrata Marino Bianchi which climbs to the middle sunmmit of the Cristallo group. We stay overnight at the Lorenzi hut. 5 - 6 hours. +850m. / - 500m.
Day 7: Today's route is the Via 'Ivano-Dibona' which is both an interesting climb and an historical excursion, as we will see several military instillations from WW1 en route. Returning to the col de Tres Croci we catch the bus down into Cortina where we check into the group hotel. 6 hours. +300m. / - 1250m.
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end after btreakfast at the hotel.
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
