The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.

You must bring the following items:

3 season sleeping bag (0ยบ C rated)

Daypack of approx. 30 litres.

Hiking boots

Training shoes /Sneakers or similar

Socks

Trekking trousers / pants

Lightweight waterproof overtrousers / rainpants Headtorch/Headlamp with spare batteries

Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)

Water bottles 1 Litre (1 Quart) x2

Selection of dry bags (to keep trek bag contents dry)

Washbag and toiletries

Warm fleece hat

Scarf or neck buff

Eyewear – Sunglasses

Ear Plugs (for use on overnight train journeys)

Fleece or other warm gloves

T-shirts

Fleece jacket or warm jumper/sweater

Lightweight waterproof jacket

Long-sleeved casual shirt

Thermal baselayer shirts

Underwear

Small towel

Small padlock (to lock trek bag)

Basic First Aid Kit including: A broad spectrum antibiotic, antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), altitude (Diamox), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, Insect repellent (DEET), and re-hydration salts (Dioralite)

The following items are optional:

Inflatable mattress e.g. Thermarest (a thin foam mat is provided)

Gaiters (to keep ash and dust out of your boots)

Swimwear (recommended)

Trekking poles (recommended)

Technical walking socks (2 or 3 pairs)

Spare laces

Travel clothes

Camera, film, batteries

Penknife (remember to pack sharp objects in hold baggage)
