Popular with the pro teams, Mallorca is a brilliant destination for road cycling, with its Mediterranean climate and well-paved coastal and mountain roads. We have set up a week-long itinerary that involves staying in hotels in Can Pastilla (adjacent to Palma), in Can Picafort on the Bay of Alcudia to the north and finally in picturesque Port de Soller on the rugged north-west coastline. With full vehicle support and accompanied by an English-speaking professional cycling guide, we will be able to explore the very best day-rides on this contrasting and colourful Ballearic island. After an introductory ride from Palma, up into the mountains at the eastern end of the Sierra de Tramuntana, we will effectively complete an anticlockwise circuit of the island. Three nights at Can Picafort allows us the flexibility of a rest day for anyone who chooses to do this. From this coastal location, we will enjoy a dramatic ride on cliff-top roads to the northern tip of the island at Cap de Formentor, followed by a pleasant ride into the interior, amongst rich farmland and groves of olive trees. Then, it's back up into the mountains, as we cross the highest pass of the circuit at the Col de Puig Major (900m) and make the sweeping descent to our hotel in Port de Soller. A coastal ride through Deia and Valldemossa, with amazing coastal and mountain scenery is a great way to conclude this excellent road cycling adventure.
Is this holiday for you?
During 6 days of cycling, we will cover as much as 570 kilometres (356 miles) with a total of around 8000 metres of ascent and descent, largely on well-paved roads and with a cycling guide throughout. There is the option on Day 4 to spend a rest day at Can Picafort and the final day of riding can be cut short with a more direct route from Valldemossa to Palma and Can Pastilla. On our journey around the island we are totally supported - at the start of the day when the group sets off biking, your kit will be loaded into the support vehicle and transported to the next overnight halt. The support vehicle can also pick up group members wishing to take a break at any time. We must stress that apart from the spares and tools you would take on any day ride you will not be required to carry anything. EXCELLENT BIKE HIRE AVAILABLE LOCALLY
