On the west side of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in Morocco, the tributary valleys above the River Nfis are amongst the most fertile and attractive in the Atlas and have been home to Berber people for generations. Traversing these foothills from the south, this excellent and quite easy 5-day trekking holiday crosses several 2000 metre passes and takes us to villages such as Amslam and Tisgui, each with their terraced fields and groves of almond and fig trees. Reaching the delightful Azaden Valley, reckoned to be the most beautiful in the region, with its watermills and traditional houses, we camp at Tizi Oussem. From here, we visit the waterfalls at Irgholiden, then climb through juniper woodland to cross the Tizi n'Zik where we have great mountain views. After a final night at a gite in Ait Souka, we return to Marrakech and have time to explore this magical city. A perfect introduction to the delights of trekking and to Morocco!
