Bernese Oberland Haute Route - West
Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at the group hotel in Aigle, near Martigny. KE Land Only package services begin with dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to the Col du Pillon and take the cable car to Sex Rouge. Cross the Glacier de Transfleuron and ascend to the summit of Les Diablerets (3209m). Overnight in the Cabane Prarochet.
Day 3: We descend to the Col du Sanetch and from there climb a shale and then rocky ridge to the Arpelistock (3035m). Descending via the Gelten Glacier into the Furggetali Valley, we overnight at the Gelten Hut.
Day 4: We trek into the Rottal Valley and climb to cross the Col du Brochet, with the possibility of also climbing the Geltenhorn. We then cross the Col des Audannes (3886m) and drop down to spend the night in the Cabane des Audannes (2508m).
Day 5: A big day. We hike to the Col des Eaux Froides and ascend to the summit of the Wildhorn (3747m). Then, descend through the 'Valley of the Rocks' to Lake Tenchet and the Plan des Roses. A final sting in the tail is the 400 metre pull up to the Wildstrubel Hut.
Day 6: A short ascent leads us to the Glacier de la Plaine Morte and after crossing this, we ascend the Wildstrubel (3242m), then the Mittlerer Gipfel. We then descend the Wildstrubel Glacier to overnight at the Cabane Lammeren (2501m).
Day 7: A relatively easy morning's descent takes us via the Gemmipass to the western edge of the Daubensee (lake). Finally, through woodland and pasture, we reach the cable car station and descend to Kandersteg where we check into our hotel.
Day 8: KE Land Only package services end with breakfast at the hotel.
Altitude
This holiday involves going to moderately high altitude. During the course of your trip you will reach altitudes in excess of 2500 metres. Most people will have no difficulty with this level of altitude but before coming on the holiday, we recommend you read the advice on trekking at altitude.
