This gentle multi-activity family holiday in Croatia gives a taste of the peaceful countryside as well as the ancient walled city of Dubrovnik and the warm crystal clear waters of the Dalmatian coast, which is a haven for water sports. During this Croatian family adventure holiday, we explore the sunshine region of the Adriatic through a variety of entertaining activities which can be enjoyed by all the family, starting with 2 nights in the pretty Konavle countryside south of Dubrovnik. We spend time on a farm, where the whole family can get involved picking fruit and vegetables or helping out in the garden and with our own fresh ingredients, we cook a traditional lunch with the farmer. We can sample the tasty cheeses made here and Mum and Dad can try their palette at wine tasting. We have a family cycle ride through quiet rural lanes and a walk along an old railway line walking through the tunnels. Every day we have some time at the beach to swim, relax, snorkel or play games and we end this lovely warm Mediterranean family holiday, exploring the Dalmatian coast by sea kayak and with a cable car ride for a fantastic view over and the incredible walled city of Dubrovnik.

Holiday Itinerary

  • Meet at the group accommodation. A single transfer from Dubrovnik Airport is provided.

KE Land Only package services begin with a group transfer, southwards along the coast (20 minutes) from the airport at Dubrovnik to our first night's accommodation near Gruda in the Konavle countryside. Depending on flight times we have the chance to stop at a local beach for our first swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea. After settling in, the remainder of the day is free to enjoy and explore the surroundings of this traditional setting. Overnight guesthouse near Gruda.

  • Local farm experience, helping pick fruit and veg before cooking our lunch. Afternoon swim at beach.

We have a short 10mins transfer to the village of Radovcici. The countryside is beautiful here, with traditional villages with red roofs, a warm Mediterranean climate and vegetation. We can also see the rugged hills, including mount Snjeznica (1234m) in the distance. Small local traditional farms are still a large part of life here, and today we experience how this still works as part of daily life. Our hosts take us for a short tour of the village before we walk to their gardens and fields. We spend a couple of hours helping out with picking seasonal fruits and vegetables, and managing the farm. We then come back to the farm house where we help cook a traditional lunch from the ingredients we have sourced this morning. After lunch we spend some time on the beach. The nearby pebble beach is just a 15 min walk from the farm and surrounded by cliffs and a rocky coastline. The beach is good for swimming and we have some time here to enjoy ourselves. We then transfer the short distance back to the accommodation near Gruda for dinner.
    Swimming: Available in the sea

The total distance will be up to 20km and the riding is all on level terrain among vineyards small villages and farms. We can take it easy on this ride to enjoy the views of the hills and further in to the distance to the beautiful blue sea. There is plenty of time to take pictures and rest in the shade if we so wish. We ride on rural country lanes with minimal traffic and return to our accommodation at lunchtime to freshen up before checking out. Lunch is in a local restaurant/cafe. We then transfer the 30-45 minutes to the coastal town of Mlini. After checking into our hotel by the beach at Mlini the rest of the afternoon is for swimming or snorkelling in the beautiful clear blue waters, or just playing on the pebble beach. Maybe if there is some wind we can fly kites.

  • Morning easy walk to a hill top for views. Afternoon high adrenaline fun at the adventure park.

After breakfast we drive towards the pretty village of Poljica in Konavle area. Here we can stretch our legs and enjoy the wonderful sea air as we set off on foot to conquor the top of a (small) hill! Feeling like we're Kings of the Castle, we have time to take our "top of the mountain photos" and look out over the land below our feet - forests, the sea and mountains as far away as the neighbouring land of Montenegro. Once we've "marched to the top of the hill and marched back down again" the fun really starts with an afternoon of high adrenaline activities as we spend the afternoon at the local adventure park. From archery to sack races, tug of war to abseiling plus climbing and a zip wire, this is a fantastic action packed afternoon with friendly instructors who will show us the best way to climb the ropes and fly on the zip wire.

Up here we have some of the best panoramic views of the city and the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, coastline and islands. We explore the Imperial Fortress here before return via the cable car. We then enjoy a city tour of the historic old town of Dubrovnik (1-2hrs). We return to the hotel where we have the afternoon at leisure. We can have lunch in the old town and then spend some time looking around this interesting area with little shops and friendly cafes, or/and we can go to the beach which is almost an extension of the hotel terrace.

We transfer (15 minutes) to St Jacob Beach, the starting point of our full day sea kayaking trip. We are fully geared up, and given a briefing and demo before entering the water. The kayaks are usually 2-man. The paddling is gentle and gives us a totally different and lovely perspective from the water. We paddle past the city walls and along the coast to the island of Lokrum. We also stop at Robinson Beach and explore some caves. On the island of Lokrum we have a few hours to enjoy the sea, swim, snorkel, go for a short walk and have lunch in a local café/restaurant. We could also take a day trip, maybe to Elaphite island or visit Mostar & Medjugorie in Bosnia/Herzegovina, or even take a trip down to Montenegro. There is also the option of a 'Story of wine and oysters' tour. This goes to the Peljesas peninsula and we visit 2 wine cellars and take a boat ride to the oyster beds for some oyster and mussel tasting. Your guide will arrange the activities for you. Of course just simple snorkelling and playing on the beach!

There is a large variety of food in Croatia due to the influence of the Mediterranean and Central Europe. This means that there is usually something for everyone’s tastes. A late lunch is the main meal of the day for Croatians, but they are equally well set up for foreigners who prefer a lighter meal at lunch. Due to its close proximity to Italy there are few towns on the coast without a pizzeria. Seafood on the coast is also popular. Breakfasts are of a continental style which consist of bread, cheese, meats and jam.

All breakfasts, 1 lunch and 6 dinners are included in the holiday price. 1 dinner is not included on the last night in Dubrovnik. This gives you the choice of restaurants for this final meal. Dubrovnik has a large selection to suit all tastes and budgets. You should budget €20-25 per person for dinner. Lunches are usually taken in a local cafe/restaurant, giving you and your family a choice of how much/little you wish to eat and spend. Lunches are €10-15 per person.

€200 per family member should be sufficient to cover all non included meals and reasonable personal expenses. ATM’s are ready available in the larger towns of Mlini and Dubrovnik. OPTIONAL ACTIVITY COSTS (All prices are per person and correct at time of writing, and are subject to change without notice) Elaphite island cruise: €40 per person Day trip to Mostar & Medjugorje: €60-110 per person, depending on size of group Day trip to Montenegro: €60-110 per person, depending on size of group The story of wine and oysters: €75-130 per person, depending on size of group

The group will be accompanied throughout by a professional English-speaking local tour leader. Additional guides will be present at certain times during the holiday, for example fo the Dubrovnik city tour and the sea kayak.

Tipping is the accepted way of saying ‘thank you’ to your leader and local team. Tipping is entirely voluntary and should be dependent on good service. We advise you to tip as a group.
