Our base for this great Italian family holiday is in the traditional hillside village of Agerola where we stay in a family-friendly hotel. During the week we explore the rugged Amalfi coast taking in several short walks, retracing the steps of Romans, ancient traders and even modern-day packs of mules. With visits to the pink town of Positano and Amalfi itself, we embrace the Italian culture with time for the best gelato in the world and plenty of opportunity for swimming. We have more family fun with a boat ride from Amalfi harbour along the coast and out to the Isle of Capri, which is Amalfi in miniature. Here we walk the lanes of the 'passeggiata and the Via Tragara to see the limestone stacks of the Faraglioni. Back on the mainland, we visit the town of Pompeii, buried for centuries by volcanic ash and we walk up Mount Vesuvius to look into the smouldering crater. The week ends with a lesson in pizza making - magnifico for the bambinos!

  • Visit and walk through streets of Pompeii. Afternoon walk on slopes of Vesuvius.

Taking a short private bus transfer, we descend from the hills and head to the sleeping town of Pompeii. The story of Pompeii is well-known. After a cataclysmic eruption of the nearby volcano, Vesuvius, the town of Pompeii was buried under the hot spewing ash for around 1700 years until it was rediscovered by Italian architect Domenico Fontana. Walking around this town is a real education for children and parents alike, as we tour the streets, visiting well preserved sites such as the amphitheatre, baths and many shops. In the afternoon we transfer by private minibus to the Mount Vesuvius and begin our very achievable summit walk. Talking approximately 45 minutes to reach the first section of crater rim, we can look right down into Vesuvius and begin to imagine the eruption of 79AD as we enjoy extensive views back across the Bay of Naples. Entrance fees to Pompeii and Vesuvius are payable locally. Pompeii is €10 per adult (children are free), Vesuvius is €10 per person. With around a 90 minutes drive back to our accommodation in Agerola we enjoy another local pasta dish! Magnifico!

Approximately €300 - 350 per family (based on mum, dad and 2 kids) should be sufficient to cover your personal spending requirements including beer, wine, soft drinks, and mineral water. Cash can be withdrawn from ATMs in most towns and if you are bringing your spending money with you, we recommend that you carry your travel money in the form of Euros. If you are intending to buy expensive souvenirs, you should budget accordingly. Also, if you expect to buy considerable quantities of soft drinks, wine or beer, you should make an allowance for this too.

The group will be accompanied throughout by a professional English-speaking local tour leader.

Tipping is the accepted way of saying ‘thank you’ to your leader and local team. Tipping is entirely voluntary and should be dependent on good service. We recommend that you decide levels of tipping and give any tips as a group rather than from individual group members.

There is no weight limit as such other than that imposed by the airline, but we do ask you to restrict your luggage to one main bag and one daypack per family member. Please bear in mind that you may have to carry your own bags for short distances in the airport and at the hotel. You may prefer to use wheeled luggage for this trip.
