  • Morning to explore Lake Bled. Afternoon of snow-shoeing to our exciting Igloo in Kranjska Gora.

The morning is free to explore beautiful Lake Bled and it's surroundings. In the afternoon we depart for the famous mountain town of Kranjska Gora. Our instructor will introduce the simple techniques of snow-shoeing before we follow snow trails through this beautiful valley to the ‘Igloo village’ where we will spend the night. On arrival we are greeted with the Slovenian equivalent of a glass of gluwein and we can settle down in the igloo bar/dining room which has seats covered with animal hide and is lit by candles. We can relax in the igloo’s sauna before taking a traditional fondue meal and turning in for the night in the igloo’s rooms, sleeping on a bed made of snow! No need to worry about the cold as the bed is covered in hide and an insulated mattress and we use a cosy sleeping bag. The igloos are also lit by candles which helps to keep the air temperature several degrees above freezing.

It makes a lot of sense to spend some time before coming on an active holiday getting some additional exercise. This is not a particularly strenuous holiday but the fitter you are, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. Long hiking trips are good for building stamina, and a regular exercise regime (running, tennis, swimming etc.) is good for developing cardio-vascular fitness. Before coming on the trip we suggest you fit in a number of long walks in hilly country.

As a reputable tour operator, KE supports the British Foreign & Commonwealth Offices ‘Know before you go’ campaign to enable British citizens to prepare for their journeys overseas, and we recommend that all KE travellers take a look at the FCO Travel Advice for their chosen destination on the official FCO website: North Americans can also check out the U.S. Department of State website: for essential travel advice and tips.

KE treat the safety and security of all clients as the most important aspect of any trip we organise. We would not run any trip that we did not consider reasonably safe.  Should the FCO advise against travel for any reason, we will contact everyone booked to travel to discuss the situation.  We receive regular updates direct from the FCO and are in constant touch with our contacts on the ground.  If you have any questions about government travel advice, please call our office.

The average winter temperature in Bled is around 0ºC though temperatures of -26ºC have been recorded! This area usually enjoys a very pleasant and stable climate and we should encounter mainly clear and sunny days. As with any mountain area there is the risk of some poor weather, with snow, cloud and wind and you must be prepared for this.
