Full of variety
Hill Tribe Trails and Highlights of North Vietnam
This was a wonderful trip and full marks to KE for devising a trek away from the crowds (we saw no other tourists for five days) and one which would be so difficult to do independently. The walking through a pastoral landscape of farmsteads and villages was fascinating and the homestays, though simple, were all very welcoming. Thanh was an excellent leader, full of stories and keen to explain everything Vietnamese. As we've come to expect with KE, all the hotel and travel arrangements worked met iculously. We enjoyed the free time in Hanoi to see the sights we wanted to see and of course the old town is just ideal for casual exploration. Ha Long Bay was outstanding. It was so nice to have a boat to ourselves and with fine food, perfect weather and, not least, such good company from one of the most harmonious groups we've travelled with, it made a fine finish.

An epic undertaking with fine guides, amazing huts, lovely hotels....and summits
Classic Haute Route
The guides told us this is the most difficult trek KE offers in the Alps. It required determined effort to cover the distance and 30,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. Some of the trails are very steep and the downhill speed is hard on the knees. The summits offer views of this unbelievable set of mountains. Kathy the lead glacier guide is a low key talented skilled caring leader with a fine sense of humour. I hope to engage her again in 2016. Dave was also excellent ever watchful and experien ced and highly skilled glacier and rock climber. I would give them both 5 stars and will follow them on other trips. If you can ski, that would be the best and a preferable way to complete the Haute Route.

A trip back in time
Camino Cubano

Get to Cuba before it all changes. This is a unique and extraordinary place in so many different ways--the lush scenery, the friendly people of Cuba, the warm, tropical climate, the pervasive music. You are guaranteed to have an extraordinary time.

Spanish sunshine, beautiful mountains and amazing food.
Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca
I've done many KE trips - and this is one of my favourites - I love it so much I have done it twice! The walking is great - these are "proper" walks - 7 or 8 hours a day with plenty of ascent and descent and distance. Really nice rocky paths and ridges & stunning views. The food is absolutely delicious - lots of local spanish dinners, locally made olive oil (we could visit the factory and see it being made). Post-walk coffee & cake always available. And on the free day we were treated to a paella-making lesson - yum! We got to stay in fancy hotels - most of the many other KE trips I have done involved camping, so it was lovely to get to sleep in a comfy bed with an ensuite bathroom for a change! Packing for this trip was a joy - no camping stuff! no wet wipes! not even any emergency loo roll! Instead I went crazy and packed different clothes for the evening (nice not to eat dinner in thermals) and even ... a hairdryer!! José our guide was fantastic. Full of knowledge and passion for the area and all things spanish. And he provided great "munchies" to help us up some of the climbs... Does life get any better than sitting on top of a mountain in December, in the sun, and eating a tortilla sandwich? (although for others in our group, a highlight was having the Trek Factory cycling team staying in the same hotel and sharing a bread-knife with Fabian Cancellara at breakfast...) Tips for future travellers? Just do it - this holiday is an easy flight from the UK & really good value. So if you want a week in the sunshine (almost guaranteed...) with 5 days of full-on wonderful walking and as much paella as you can eat, go for it!

Fantastic challenging trekking break.
Mount Toubkal in Winter

Excellent week spent in the Atlas Mountains. Looked after by 2 local guides who were professional, safe and very approachable. Group size was just right. Food was a nice surprise, much better than I expected and I was never left feeling hungry. All in all a great experience, and good value for money too. Looking forward to receiving the KE brochure through the post and planning my next adventure.

A delightful family adventure with all the winter sports and Lapland experiences
Winter Wonderland Arctic Family Adventure

We loved Camp Ripan, and throughly enjoyed KE's programme of activities. The hotel provided sledges, and all around the outskirts are lit marked trails, so in any spare time we could still have fun in the snow. The meals were excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful, the cabins were comfortable. The guides were genuine and enthusiastic, and we particularly enjoyed the husky sled ride and the snow-shoeing. To conclude, a great way for a family to sample the delights of the frozen north!

A varied, stunning and inspiring big mountain experience.
Dhaulagiri Circuit via the French Pass
This trip was everything I hoped it would be - as the walking starts low there is time to enjoy walking through the beautiful villages and terraced farmland which still feels like real Nepal. Once you are up in the high mountains the scenery gets more spectacular by the day! Although there are some long walking days, we also had a number of half days and rest days which meant you could really enjoy being in each camp. Once over the Damphus Pass, the terrain is different again and the views of An napurna are amazing. The village of Marpha at the end of the trek is a real gem. As we were unable to fly out of Jonsom we had a long bus ride out on local buses which was very spectacular but not for the feint hearted! Jo, our trek leader, was absolutely fantastic - I can not praise her enough - and coupled with the friendly local crew they really made this a trip to remember.

An amazing trip
Trek Jiri to Everest Base Camp

If you have the time, I would strongly recommend the Jiri trek as you get to see parts of Nepal that you would otherwise miss. Being away from the crowds of Lukla made it all the better. Our trek was very well organised and the entire guiding and support crew were simply excellent. Accommodation is basic in places, but that's what you expect and whilst some areas are still rebuilding after the earthquake, we were always met with a warm welcome.

A trip of variety
Backroads of Cambodia Bike
An excellent trip with lots of variety. This is described as an easy cycling holiday and I would certainly agree with that. Whilst the heat and humidity makes the cycling harder, our trip leader was excellent at ensuring we took regular breaks and drank enough water. As a result, this was very manageable. There is a good variety of cycling, temple sightseeing, exploring, swimming, kayaking, and leisure time throughout the trip. I would recommend that you check with KE regarding the kit list befo re you travel as we took lots of spare parts which were not required by the support crew. Also, for us, specialist cycling shoes/shorts/gloves were not required and therefore I would suggest that you simply take whatever you are comfortable cycling in. As you cycle on backroads, these can be very dusty and you can end up very dusty and dirty at the end of each day.

A excellent winter week in Morocco!
Mount Toubkal in Winter

I really enjoyed all aspects of this holiday - an excellent winter week in Morocco! Food was fabulous, guides were excellent. It's definitely worth doing the second summit (Ras Ouanoukrim, 4089 m), a slightly more technical route with some scrambling, for amazing views back over to Toubkal. Worth taking a breathable bivvy bag to help with the condensation in the refuge. Also best to grab a bottom bunk if you can!

Spectacular views, great trek
Annapurna Sanctuary and Poon Hill Trek
I chose this trip because its timing happened to match the time I could get off at work.. It turned out to be an amazing vacation. -The hiking wasn't particularly hard (max. 6 hours a day) -We slept in tea house hotels, many of which had hot/warm showers. -The food we ate was infinitely better than the dehydrated meals I'm used to, while hiking. -The crew was extremely friendly and professional. I got along well enough with one of the crew members to add him to facebook. -The views from Poon Hil l, Annapurna base camp and Macchapuchre base camps were completely unreal. It almost looked like a painting. -The trails are very well maintained. No earthquake damage at all. -I paid for the single supplement which, because it was off-season, meant I had my own room at every stop, which was very nice. The main downside wasn't really related to KE.. there's a bit of a fuel shortage in Nepal right now due to a blockade. As a result, the December trip was a little cold/unheated at times.

Stunning introduction to the desert.
Edge of the Sahara Trek

The length of time in the desert, route and degree of difficulty were all spot on for me. The quality of the food was superb. The quality of camping kit and locations was fine and all the staff very friendly. Whilst, for me, the occasional slight disorganisation added to the experience, I think that our leader's English had the potential to be a problem (on a number of occasions we had to resort to our elementary French).

Badly organised
From the Pacific to the Caribbean

Apart from the last 3 days when we had a different driver/guide the trip was a badly run disgrace. There are too many things for me to list as we've already wasted enough time on the holiday. Main things, 3 hotels were changed to poorer ones, transfer times were greatly underestimated and the guide was very lacking in information, especially when things went wrong, as he didn't seem to know what any possible solutions could be. 11 customers who won't be booking with KE again.

We apologise that you were disappointed with so many things on your holiday. Although this part of the world is very much an emerging tourist destination where things do not always go quite as planned, we have run this itinerary very successfully several times over the past two years and have received some great feedback. Clearly you were unhappy with aspects of your holiday and we are going to investigate this. Once we have completed that investigation we will contact you directly with a full response.

A Volcanic Vacation
El Salvador's Eight

We are just some from our two weeks of climbing volcanoes in El Salvador. It was great to be in an "off the beaten track" location for our trip. The local guide was fantastic and it was great to see so much and learn so much about El Salvador. We are working our way south on Central American volcanoes and can't wait until we can head onto our next trip. This trip had it all...a fun group, interesting walks, lots of volcanoes, and a good intro to all this Salvadorian!

Stunning country and magnifcent volcanoes
Guatemala's Magnificent Seven

First time I have used KE and extremely satisfied with the organization, from both the UK operations and the in-country team. Walking was challenging - because of the sheer altitudes to be climbed on a daily basis - from village level all the way to the summit including the requirement to acclimatize. Sunrises and sunsets were awesome! Volcanoes were very active - consider taking a tripod to capture night time volcanic activity of Fuego, for example.

Well planned, authentic experience
Winter Sunshine Walking in the Jebel Sahro - Morocco
Well organised, authentic experience, well within the capabilities of any fit walker- the optional peaks are rough but straightforward and worth the effort for the views. Some beautiful scenery from day three onwards (the first two days are a little dull, with lots of walking on dried up riverbeds) culminating in a fabulous day on Amalou Mansour. Hassan, our excellent guide was an interesting and informative man with a wide knowledge of the area and of Moroccan history and its people. Our mulete ers were a great bunch, and Abdul, the chef, excelled himself with a wide variety of meals. With the exception of the first campsite, which is a bit grim and on the outskirts of a village, the others were in idyllic locations, though the toilet tent takes a bit of getting used to, and most people made their own arrangements behind a rock! The other trekkers in my group were without exception, committed and interesting people, and with good weather and good company, this was a trip to remember! It can be very cold at night, so take a down jacket, and a good head torch with lots of spare batteries for reading during the long hours of darkness.

Amazing scenery in a remote & special part of Morocco
Jebel Sahro Walking Holiday
Thisis an amazing 4 days of trekking, through wild scenery of wind-eroded volcanoes and deep ravines. You won't meet another soul - unless it's a lady herding goats - a rael chance to "get away from it all." Tips 1) You won't get a bowl of hot water in the mornings as with other camping trips - water is too scarce 2) You need very little spending money - maybe £40 on tips and a drink/snack if you arrive early on 1st day. (You can't spend dharma in the Duty Free - except a few small outlets) so don't exchange too much 3) You don't need water purification tablets - water is bought just before you get to the homestead in Tagdelt 4) The homestead is VERY basic, with two uni-sex rooms. 5) 90% of the paths are copvered in stones/boulders, or are in river valleys - this is tough walking

Disappointing
Hill Tribe Trails and Highlights of North Vietnam
This was our 4th KE trip and unfortunately failed to live up to the standards we have come to expect. Firstly the itinerary had quite a few differences in it although we are not sure whether this is the fault of the itinerary or of our guide. For example, Day 6 - we did not trek over the 2000m summit, Day 8 - the market is not on in Bac Ha on a Saturday, Day 11 - we did not visit a floating village and the bike ride was just over 1 hour at the slowest pace possible, Day 12 - there was no option for kayaking, Day 13 - we did not take a small fast boat to explore the bay. Some of this may have been down to our guide however - Lun - who was quite frankly, awful. He took no interest in the clients, he seldom stayed with the group, and the only conversation he made was to advise the time for meals. We met an alternative guide on the transfer to the airport to come home - Thanh - and we learnt more about Vietnam from Thanh in 45 minutes than we did from Lun in 2 weeks. My advice would be to avoid this trip if Lun is leading it

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We enjoyed reading your excellent recent reviews of 'Jiri to Everest Base Camp' and also cycling the 'Backroads of Cambodia', so were disappointed that your experiences in Vietnam did not meet your expectations from those trips.  Your guide, Hoang Van Lun, has received great feedback from clients on the 'Vietnam North to South' tour and we are not sure what happened to make him so disengaged from the group on your trip. However, we will be making a full investigation with our agent and will respond directly to you regarding the individual points you have raised.

Shame about the guide
Edge of the Sahara Trek
This was an interesting trip that could have been a lot better. The hotels in Marrakech were both out of town, and the beds were both uncomfortable. Our guide was, unfortunately, the worst guide I have ever had, and having been on about 10 adventure holidays, nine of which were guided well, this was very disappointing. Our guide did not give us proper briefs and spent very little time talking to us, preferring to talk to the cook and camel headers. The food was good, (the cook did well) though w e became bored of couscous and tagine and it was a shame to have it again, in a particularly low quality restaurant, on our last day in Marrakech. If you decide to go on this trip, make sure you ask the guide to make you to a good restaurant on the last night. The view of the stars at night was superb, the camping was fun and the view from the large sandmen we climbed was superb. Take lots of high factor sunscreen and warmer clothes for the cold evenings.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review and for the great photos. The hotels you used in Marrakech are located approximately 15 minutes walk from the main square and although there are closer options, these can be noisy in the evenings. We were surprised to read that you were disappointed with your guide, as Hassan normally receives excellent feedback and is usually keen to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of his country. As well as being responsible for your safety and the smooth running of your trip, KE expects all its leaders to be active members of the group and we will be emphasising this aspect of leadership at our next annual guides training course in Marrakech. At the end of a great holiday the last night's meal should be special. We have a list of recommended restaurants in Marrakech, although we would not want to completely rule out our guides' local knowledge when deciding the best venue for a particular group. It was gratifying to read that you enjoyed various aspects of the holiday such as the food on trek, your desert camps under Saharan night skies and the views from the dunes.

Wonderful exploration and discovery of NW area India which had 'called' to me.
Hill Stations & Houseboats of Kashmir
Was very well taken care of by the ground agents whilst travelling as an independent after group booking was cancelled. Left feedback with them as requested before leaving Delhi regarding specific hotels/guides etc. Couple of glitches during the trip down to outside forces and totally out of control of KE/agents but taken care of wonderfully by the Indian personnel over there looking after me, both by the people 'one the spot' at the time and the team in Delhi which was constantly in touch with the local guides etc. throughout. Actually made the trip even more enjoyable and a real adventure! In most locations not was I the only western woman but the only westerner full stop. Felt very safe. Everyone locally was so friendly, treated me so nicely and I made memorable contacts and experiences. And to top it all was very healthy throughout - I only eat Indian food when there/which was great! I can't wait to visit India again. go back to India.
