About our Discovery holidays

  • Stay in a yurt in Mongolia or in remote Uzbekistan
  • Visit the Taj Mahal at dawn and see Tigers in India
  • Ride a camel in the Sahara desert in Morocco
  • Track mountain gorillas in Uganda
  • Explore the temples and trails of Burma

Our Discovery collection draws together the best of our holidays that focus on the culture of a destination, as well as on visiting iconic sights and embracing local traditions. Some of these Discovery holidays will also have an element of activity, combining sightseeing with short walks, for example. Others might have a multi-activity holiday format, including biking and/or rafting, for instance, and these holidays are specifically designed for the adrenaline seeker!  Also within our discovery collection are those of our holidays with a wildlife emphasis, photographic workshops, and polar cruise holidays.

Never too physically demanding, these are predominantly touring holidays and their grade (usually towards the lower end of our 1 to 12 scale) reflects, in part, the remoteness of the area visited and the conditions likely to be encountered. Our Discovery holidays allow the discerning traveller to get right to the heart of many of the world's most stimulating destinations.

Using our 3 decades of experience in the business of adventure travel, we have created Discovery holidays that have a lot to offer. These are adventure holidays that have excited our interest - quite simply, they are the best discovery holidays in the world and include everything from Nepal Explorer to the Highlights of Sri Lanka and the Wildlife of Costa Rica.  If you are looking to Walk the Great Wall of China, Explore Madagascar or take an Amazon Riverboat Cruise then this is where your dreams can be realised.

Choose one of our discovery holidays for the chance to escape your day-to-day routine, experience one of the world's exotic regions and learn a little of the way-of life of the local people.

MCA - Mountains and Marvels of Central Asia
Mountains and Marvels of Central Asia   Katie (NOTTINGHAM)

This trip comprises of two parts, a week trekking in the northern Fann Mountains of Tajikistan and a week sightseeing in the cities of Uzbekistan. I choose this trip over the Ultimate Fann Mountains (UFT)

primarily because I wanted to see more of Uzbekistan, although I would also have liked to do a longer trek in Tajikistan! The scenery on trek in Tajikistan was spectacular. My highlights included the views from the top of the Chapdara and Kulikalon Passes and our campsites at Alaudin and Kulikalon Lakes (Days 3-5). Each night we camped by a river or lake and so there were ample opportunities for washing, even if the water was rather refreshing! I would recommend taking a good supply of cereal bars or similar, as extra food supplies to have on trek. The people of Tajikistan are incredibly hospitable, although the country is very poor and facilities can be basic. In Uzbekistan we visited the cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. Due to the timing of our flights (Tashkent to Urgench on Day 8, and Tashkent to Istanbul on Day 15) we only had very limited time in Tashkent. If you would like to see more of this city then I would recommend booking a day or two extra at the end of the trip. We stayed in the same hotel in Tashkent on Day 7 and Day 14 (for a few hours!) and so we were able to leave much of our trekking gear in Tashkent. My highlights in Uzbekistan included Khiva and Bukhara, and I was glad to have chosen the trip which took in these additional cities as I enjoyed them more than Samarkand (which does have some very impressive sites, but has more of a ‘big city’ feel). Good pre-departure information from KE and quick to respond to queries. Looking forward to booking my next KE adventure!

NAB - The Great Southern Africa Safari
The Great Southern African Safari   Pamela (ROSS-ON-WYE)

For anyone looking to visit Africa this is a wonderful and varied trip. The itinerary is extremely well planned and covers safaris in Etosha and Chobe. If you're lucky like us you'll spot the big five! Spotting

a leopard up a tree in Etosha on our first day is something we'll never forget. You'll get to stay in wonderful lodges, cabins, tents etc and everyday is different to be shared with new friends on the tour. It's important to have a relaxed and flexible attitude as you'll be travelling in a mixed group spending many hours in the truck between destinations and one night you'll be wild camping and the other in a luxury lodge. Kalunga and Griffiths, our tour leaders, gave us a holiday of a lifetime. They worked tirelessly to provide us with great meals, safaris, local information etc and did their utmost to make the trip memorable. We only wish it didn't have to end so soon!

was excellent. We saw amazing amounts of wildlife largely due to local knowledge of our very experienced guides. I think we both underestimated the difficulty involved in trekking in high temperatures and extreme humidity, however we both made a successful summit of Kinabulu. We would like to thank everyone involved for making the once in a lifetime trip so enjoyable. Thank you again for the wonderful service.
