Kevin Rushby, the Guardian's Travel 'Explorer', joined us on our Traverse of the Picos de Europa adventure and his feature has now been published in The Guardian.

When you think of Spain, your mind might go straight to golden beaches, sunshine and all-inclusive holidays. But there's a whole other side to the country that many people never discover. In the north, you'll find dramatic limestone peaks, deep gorges and spectacular mountain trails that make Spain one of Europe's finest walking destinations.

On his adventure, Kevin journeys from west to east across the Picos de Europa, following ancient shepherds' trails, passing fertile alpine meadows, traditional shepherds' huts and secluded mountain hamlets, weaving between limestone cliffs and vast boulder fields. Each day ended in secluded mountain refuge surrounded with spectacular scenery.
