About our Discovery holidays

  • Stay in a yurt in Mongolia or in remote Uzbekistan
  • Visit the Taj Mahal at dawn and see Tigers in India
  • Ride a camel in the Sahara desert in Morocco
  • Track mountain gorillas in Uganda
  • Explore the temples and trails of Burma

Our Discovery collection draws together the best of our holidays that focus on the culture of a destination, as well as on visiting iconic sights and embracing local traditions. Some of these Discovery holidays will also have an element of activity, combining sightseeing with short walks, for example. Others might have a multi-activity holiday format, including biking and/or rafting, for instance, and these holidays are specifically designed for the adrenaline seeker!  Also within our discovery collection are those of our holidays with a wildlife emphasis, photographic workshops, and polar cruise holidays.

Never too physically demanding, these are predominantly touring holidays and their grade (usually towards the lower end of our 1 to 12 scale) reflects, in part, the remoteness of the area visited and the conditions likely to be encountered. Our Discovery holidays allow the discerning traveller to get right to the heart of many of the world's most stimulating destinations.

Using our 3 decades of experience in the business of adventure travel, we have created Discovery holidays that have a lot to offer. These are adventure holidays that have excited our interest - quite simply, they are the best discovery holidays in the world and include everything from Nepal Explorer to the Highlights of Sri Lanka and the Wildlife of Costa Rica.  If you are looking to Walk the Great Wall of China, Explore Madagascar or take an Amazon Riverboat Cruise then this is where your dreams can be realised.

Choose one of our discovery holidays for the chance to escape your day-to-day routine, experience one of the world's exotic regions and learn a little of the way-of life of the local people.

STB - Saigon to Bangkok - Mekong Explorer
Saigon to Bangkok - Mekong Explorer   Glyn (STOKE-ON-TRENT)

We had a fantastic time on this trip and certainly couldn't have done it independently in such a short space of time. Three countries, loads of sights, many experiences and lots of wonderful people. This was

my first organised tour and I was somewhat apprehensive before we went having done all my travelling independently previously. Luckily we were well looked after by our three guides, had some great travelling companions and were able to fit so much in that I wouldn't rule out further organised trips. Probably with KE too! Most of the accommodation was way above what I was expecting and the provided food was almost always excellent. When meals weren't provided we were steered to 'safe' places because you wouldn't want a jippy belly on this jam-packed trip. Even I managed to stay free of the dreaded Delhi belly so the guides must have done their job well in that respect as well. All our guides were fantastic but Nin stood out in particular. Full of enthusiasm and information with an eye for where to get the best photographs we will be keeping in touch with him for sure. The start of our holiday was ruined by Qatar Airways but everyone at KE looked after us and made sure we were still collected from the airport despite KE getting us there 22 hours late....and without our luggage.... Our guide then hassled them to get our luggage to us as soon as possible despite us being many miles from the airport by then. After that everything was fantastic; from bike rides in the Mekong Delta to getting up to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat it was an unforgettable holiday and I'd highly recommend it.

CAMB Backroads of Cambodia
Backroads of Cambodia   John (NORMANTON)

Great biking holiday. The cycling can be a bit more demanding than the grade 2 suggests due to the heat and the possible pace of the group although the back up team always are on hand to provide the option of a

lift in the support vehicle. A great itinerary providing a variety of experiences of temples, villages and landscapes including some river trips with fascinating floating villages. An excellent local guide worked very hard to look after the group. Some accommodation was a bit unsatisfactory but our guide was anxious to receive our feedback and clearly looking to explore future improvements.

BOB - Best of Borneo
The Best of Borneo including Mount Kinabalu   Anthony (SOUTHWELL)

My family thoroughly enjoyed their two weeks in Borneo and different experiences we encountered. We saw a large variety of wildlife and the lodge accommodation was extremely good and comfortable. That we

could not make the summit climb on Kinabalu did not detract from the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed all the trekking and the various boat trips and safaris. It should be noted that the Pinnacles climb is particularly arduous - it is not a trek; but a scramble using hands and feet for the most of the way up and all of the way down. A good supply of high calorie snacks (from the UK) and re-hydration salts are recommended as the energy expended and water loss in the heat & high humidity is considerable on the Pinnacles. We would have welcomed a longer stay at Sepilok and the only real disappointment was the ferry transfer from Limbang to Kota Kinabula which is a long and tedious journey; nothing 'exciting' about it at all. In terms of kit, a small collapsible umbrella would be a good idea the rain showers can be short, sharp and heavy and an umbrella can be put up a lot more quickly than wrestling with waterproofs. All our guides had and used umbrellas. Thank you for putting together a great holiday and experience.

UBT - Ultimate Bhutan Tour
The Ultimate Bhutan Tour   Michael (MARKHAM)

We were fortunate to have an extremely talented driver, and a wonderful guide. The places we went to, and I mean all of them, were amazing, with breathtaking views on the way. Some of the accommodations were

actually above our expectations which was nice. The down side of the trip was the ride. While you have no control over the road, which is being redeveloped, you do have some control over the vehicle used. We were not provided with a suitable vehicle for the ride. That is really my only complaint. Everything else was great.
