Turning your donations into practical help for children and families in Rasuwa

For more than 40 years, Nepal has been at the heart of KE. Over that time, we’ve built strong and lasting relationships with people and communities across the country, including the team behind the Juniper Trust, a long-standing charity partner of KE.

KE founder and former director Glenn Rowley was a founding member of the Juniper Trust and remains a trustee and director today, so we have a particularly close connection with the charity and its work in Nepal.

From our Nepal Flood Appeal, we directed £10,000 of the money raised to the Juniper Trust. This has funded two Juniper Trust deliveries of practical support to three schools in Rasuwa, one of the areas badly affected by the floods and still difficult to reach.

Supporting three schools in Rasuwa

Following the floods, the Juniper Trust quickly mobilised its team in Nepal to provide support in the worst-affected areas. They identified three schools still operating and supporting around 650 children that were in need of help.

Working directly with headteachers and village leaders, the Juniper Trust team identified what was most urgently needed and set about sourcing and preparing the supplies.

The deliveries include thousands of notebooks, drawing books, pencils, pens and other school supplies, alongside school bags, sports equipment, games and essential food supplies including rice, pulses, cooking oil and noodles.

The team also prepared 100 individual packs for some of the children and families most affected. Each pack contains practical essentials such as an induction stove, toiletries, a towel, slippers, a lunch box, water bottle, socks and games.

Getting the supplies there

Getting the supplies to Rasuwa has been an enormous challenge.

The roads into the region remain difficult following the floods, with landslides and damage to infrastructure making the journey particularly challenging. The second delivery travelled for several days, with the truck breaking down three times before finally suffering a terminal breakdown just a few hours from its destination.

The Juniper Trust team refused to give up. After a huge amount of coordination, another truck was found in Rasuwa and the entire load was transferred and taken safely to its destination.

Despite the difficult journey and heavy rain, the vast majority of the supplies arrived safely and are now being distributed to the schools and families.

A big thank you to everyone

None of this happens without the people on the ground.

Juniper Trust volunteers in Kathmandu spent days shopping for supplies, sorting and packing everything and preparing individual deliveries for each school. Volunteers and representatives in Rasuwa are helping to coordinate distribution and make sure the support reaches the children and families who need it most.

And, of course, none of this could have happened without your generous donations. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to direct £10,000 of the funds raised through our Nepal Flood Appeal to the Juniper Trust, helping provide practical support to children and families affected by the devastating floods.

The rest of the funds raised are being distributed between Karuna Shechen, a charitable organisation with an established presence across the Himalayas, and other causes directly supporting people affected by the floods. This includes direct support for families of our crew and ground agents in Nepal, some of whom have lost their homes and family members. We’re continuing to work with our trusted contacts to make sure the remaining funds reach the people and places where they are most needed.
