Rental conditions vary between suppliers. You will be provided with the details of the applicable rental conditions with your car hire quotation.

Top-up insurance provides you with reimbursement cover against losses or damages to the vehicle that are not covered by the standard car rental insurance. Top-up insurance covers:

- Loss or damage to the wheels (tyres and rims) and windows (including the windscreen)

- Loss or damage to mirrors, roof, and underside

- Loss or damage to keys and locks

- Additional charges incurred due to lock-outs, misfuelling, and flat battery

Zero Excess Liability means you won’t have to pay an excess in case of a collision.

Excess Reimbursement Insurance means that you will have to pay the excess at the time, and you can then claim it back after the rental finishes.

Either way, with the excess protection or excess insurance in place for each booking through KE, you can have peace of mind that you will be able to reclaim any excess charges in case of an accident.

Is there a minimum age requirement to drive the car?

Many car rental providers have a minimum age limit of 23 or 25 years. Sometimes a young driver surcharge may be applicable. Generally, there is a minimum requirement that the licence has been held for 1 year or more. The details of the specific rental conditions will be provided with your quote.

In most locations, drivers over the age of 70 can hire a vehicle without any additional cost. The details of the specific rental conditions will be provided with your quote.

On collection, you will need to provide a valid credit card to allow the pre-authorisation of the security deposit required. The security deposit will be processed in the respective currency as confirmed in your quotation and rental conditions. A security deposit is there to cover any parking or speeding fines, uninsured parts of the vehicle, if a claim is made when the insurance has been invalidated, and to ensure the safe return of the vehicle.

The credit card must be in the name of the main driver, with sufficient funds available for the security deposit required by the rental supplier, as stipulated in your quotation. Pre-paid credit cards, debit cards and Google or Apple Pay are not accepted.

Unless any costs need to be deducted over the course of the rental (e.g. loss, damage, traffic violation etc), the security deposit will be released shortly after the rental finishes. On some occasions, it may take up to 30 days after the rental has finished for the security deposit to be released.

There may be local charges payable on collection for any additional services required. These can include (but are not limited to) equipment rental (GPS device, toll transponder, child/booster seats), fuel deposit, any additional drivers, cross-border fees, out-of-hours collection/return fee, airport collection charges, any younger/older driver surcharges applicable.

Information on these costs will be provided in your quotation. You will need to make payment for these at the hire desk in the respective local currency.

You need to ensure that you have the following documentation with you to collect your hire car:

- Your valid photo-card driver’s licence

- If your driving licence is not in English or was not issued in the UK or EU, you must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP)

- Your passport

- A credit card with available credit to cover the security deposit

- Your car rental documents and pre-paid car hire voucher

Yes, in Europe most countries have toll roads which are payable as you pass through. They are simple to use and you pay for the amount of time you have been on the toll road. It is worth keeping a small amount of change handy to cover these. Depending on the location, it may also be possible to rent a toll transponder from the car hire desk – this will be payable locally.
