Who are The Juniper Trust?

The Juniper Trust is a charity that supports community projects all over the world. It's basic vision is to work in a low-impact, sustainable way to support the poorest communities, particularly children, listening to community needs in the developing world and working in equal partnership. It was founded in 1994 by a group of volunteers, inspired by writer and teacher Angela Locke. KE founder Glenn Rowley, has been the driving force behind KE’s support for the charity and has inspired many KE clients to help where they can. It's Patron is Sir Chris Bonington CBE. Registered Charity: 1053356.

2021 project:  Planting 10,000 fruit trees in Nepal

Juniper Trust planting trees

During March and April 2021, the KE team crossed the entire length of the Greater Himalaya Range from Nanga Parbat in Pakistan to Namche Barwa in Tibet, passing through, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet… and back from Nepal to our home in the Lake District; that's over 12,192 km of hiking, running, biking, swimming and paddling in our ‘back yard’ - the UK Lake District, to complete the distance. The aim was to raise as much money as possible to help the Juniper Trust plant fruit trees in remote villages in Nepal.

It costs £15 for 20 fruit trees to be transported and planted in remote Nepali villages. The trees, a mixture of avocado, lemon, gooseberry, pomegranate, guava and alma trees will generate fruit income for up to 10 years as they grow. This is life changing for those who live in these remote and isolated villages.

With your help and donations, we raised nearly £2000 and have helped purchase nearly 3000 trees towards the 10,000 tree target. The Juniper Trust team have now been delivering the trees which are split 60% to residents and 40% to managed planted sites on government land.

Watch this video from ITV news and see what Glenn Rowley (Juniper Trust) has to say about the project.

The challenge may have finished but you can still help contribute to buy more trees for future planting.
