Who needs Mains Electricity, Phone Signal & Wifi?

There is 5 meters of cable required to link the accommodation that we stayed at in the Algarve, to the mains electricity. However our hosts had made the decision not to connect and go completely off-grid. Everything is powered by solar panels and sustainable sources.

The farm is organic and most of the salads, fruit and vegetables come from the surrounding land. Each day plentiful culinary delights are produced from the kitchen, perfectly selected to take in the needs of young children, ravenous teenagers and Mums and Dads alike. Another piece adding to the magic of this accommodation in this private cork-tree filled valley, is the lack of phone signal and the weak wifi which can be found by putting your device at a leftwards angle on the back lounge window sill….GREAT!

The kids all forgot about their devices and begged to go to the lake for a swim, play on the zip-wire, go on the crazy swing, play table tennis, or just read in a hammock, and this is all before and after day’s activities of rock climbing, surfing, walking, bodyboarding and kayaking. We found that even the teenage boys would happily wash in the private solar powered outdoor shower. This holiday totally nailed the balance between activities, accommodation, food and laughter. There was a lot of laughter in the house-hold – was this because screen time was not available? Or was it just because it was not needed…?
