Trekking Regions of Nepal

A country known for its deep-rooted religious and cultural traditions, warm and welcoming people, mouth-watering cuisine, and arguably the greatest trekking in the world, it’s easy to see why Nepal is at the top of every adventure traveller’s bucket list. Home to the tallest and most iconic mountains on Earth, trekking in Nepal really does live up the huge expectations.

The views on a Nepalese trek make the hard work completely worth it: Wake up early to catch the waking sun, as it slowly rises above the rugged mountains, painting the sky in a breathtaking collage of oranges, purples and pinks. The chorus of morning birds fills the air and the crisp himalayan breeze prepares you for the day, along with a hot mug of Nepalese coffee. Throughout the day, fortunate trekkers can spot the graceful movements of red pandas in the dense forests and hear the melodic calls of exotic birds echoing through the diverse landscapes of Nepal. At the summit of your trek, the view will take your breath away more than the altitude’s thinning air. Neverending mountaintops disappear into the horizon. Distant snow-capped peaks glisten in the sun. The sights up here are up there with the greatest in the world.

KE run an array of incredible Nepalese trekking holidays catering to people of all abilities. Every trip is enhanced by its incredible team of sherpas and guides whose passion for the Himalayas is as high as the mountains themselves! From the breathtaking and beautiful Annapurnas, to the spectacular Everest and Khumbu region, world class trips can be found throughout this incredible nation:

Annapurna Region

The Annapurna mountain range beckons adventure enthusiasts with its captivating charm – meandering trekking paths cut through the lush sub-tropical terrain, unveiling some of the most breathtaking and enchanting locations on the planet. Situated north of the serene lakeside city of Pokhara, the Annapurnas stand out as one of the premier trekking destinations globally. The Annapurna Circuit and Sanctuary treks were among the initial gems of Nepalese trekking that captured the imagination of adventure seekers, with KE introducing variations of these classics in the late 1980s. Over the years, the growing influx of trekkers has spurred the establishment of lodges along these well-trodden Annapurna trails and others. Bursting with wildlife and adorned by picturesque villages surrounded by meticulously terraced rice fields, these trails guide trekkers to awe-inspiring corners of the Earth, offering mesmerizing vistas of the renowned snow-capped mountain range.

Everest and Khumbu

Khumbu (also known as the Everest Region) is a region of northeastern Nepal on the Nepalese side of Mount Everest and In 2022 was voted the sixth best region in the world to travel. Home to the world’s tallest mountain and most iconic treks, the Everest region is a haven for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. With its rugged landscapes, charming Sherpa villages, and the legendary Everest Base Camp trek, Khumbu encapsulates the essence of high-altitude adventure, inviting travellers to witness unparalleled vistas and experience the thrill of standing at the foot of the world's highest peak.

Arguably the planet's most renowned trek, journeys to Everest Base Camp are synonymous with Nepal and are a must for anyone who relishes walking in the great outdoors. Following the footsteps of legendary climbers, the routes to Everest Base Camp wind through lush forests, picturesque villages, and challenging terrain. The trek is not just a physical challenge, but a spiritual and emotional one, providing breathtaking views, camaraderie with fellow trekkers, and a deep-seated connection with the majestic mountains.

Eastern Nepal

Eastern Nepal, a region brimming with natural splendour and cultural richness, beckons adventurers seeking a unique and immersive trekking experience. One of the hidden gems in this part of the country is the Ganesh Himal Panorama Trek, a journey that unfolds against the backdrop of the majestic Ganesh Himal range. This trek offers a captivating blend of diverse landscapes, from terraced fields and dense forests to traditional villages that provide an authentic glimpse into the local way of life.

Gosainkund and Langtang Trek, another captivating adventure in Eastern Nepal, takes trekkers through the enchanting Langtang Valley, renowned for its pristine beauty and welcoming Tamang communities. The trail leads to the sacred Gosainkund Lakes, nestled high in the Himalayas, offering not only breathtaking mountain panoramas but also a spiritual ambiance.

Western Nepal

Western Nepal is a region of extraordinary diversity, captivating landscapes, and cultural richness. This enchanting part of the country is blessed with majestic mountains, verdant valleys, and vibrant communities that offer a glimpse into Nepal's diverse tapestry. Beyond the renowned trekking destinations, Western Nepal is home to charming hill towns, terraced fields, and traditional villages that showcase the warmth and hospitality of the locals. Festivals, ancient temples, and historical sites add layers of significance to the area, inviting travellers to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Nepalese traditions.

Journeys such as the Shey Gompa and Inner Doplo Trek take travellers into the least accessible and yet most alluring corners of Nepal. Only a handful of adventurers have ventured into the core of Dolpo, a region vividly depicted in Eric Valli's outstanding film, 'Himalaya.' It is a land seemingly untouched by the passage of time, characterised by a blend of ancient Tibetan religions and a resilient population sustaining their livelihoods through agriculture and trade with both Tibet and Nepal.
