Winner of tent competition raises funds for Juniper Trust Trek

Congratulations to Kathleen Hughes (winner of our June tent competition) who has successfully landed from a 15,000ft skydive in order to raise funds for her Juniper Trust Nepal Trek in November. Read Kathleens fundraising story and find out more about the trek.

Kathleen has now successfully completed her skydive raising over 56% of her target of £2000 by jumping out of a place at 15,000ft. Her exact words were "I can't find any suitable words to describe it"

We think she enjoyed herself. Watch her video and see for yourself.

Kathy won our KEnews competition in June to win a Vango tent which she sold and raised £90 towards her target. Read her story.

Vango Tent"I’m not normally one to enter competitions, especially the ones where you have to make up a caption, or a reason for buying the product etc. That’s why I like to enter the KE competitions – they’re a nice, simple, random draw of all entries.

So I was amazed to receive the email telling me I’d won the draw from the June 2016 Newsletter – a superb Vango 350XL tent which Cotswold Outdoor were currently offering for £99.

I was particularly thrilled with this because I’ve booked to join the KE Juniper Trust charity trek to Nepal in November, meaning I’m raising funds in as many ways as possible. So although I didn’t actually need the tent myself, I sold it for £90 which I added to my online fundraising efforts.

I’m not very good at asking people for money, but I’ve been amazed and humbled by the generosity of friends and family who I’ve contacted, willingly offering their encouragement and donations.

I constructed a poster which I printed and laminated, and have been putting it up in shop windows and community noticeboards around my local village.

I’m a long-term member of my local Slimming World group where I’ve received generous support and encouragement.

My son Andrew is also booked on the trek and we are having a friendly competition to see who can raise the most funds. He works at Go Outdoors where he has taken advantage of his contacts with sales reps from the various suppliers they use. Many of them have donated items of clothing, equipment etc. which he is raffling (alongside sales of homemade flapjacks) from a display he has constructed in the shop.

So far I’m winning, but there’s plenty of time for him to catch up and overtake me!
