Frequently Asked Questions.

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. Our friendly Customer Sales & Support team will also be able to answer any of your questions on our holidays or about booking with us. Call + 44 (0) 17687 73966 or email sales@keadventure.com

Booking and Pre Departure

Each of our holidays are graded 1 - 12 and the distances and elevation gained each day are listed in the daily itinerary. There is also a 'Is this holiday for you?' section on each trip.

For each of our holidays which travel at altitude (generally this means above 2,500 metres), the maximum altitudes attained are listed on the web site and in the heading of the individual Trip Notes. Also see our High Altitue FAQs below.

In addition, the altitudes of each camp and each pass are listed in the daily itinerary. You should read this carefully and use your own judgement to gauge whether your chosen holiday is suitable for your level of experience.

If you have any doubts at all you should contact the KE office. Our experienced staff are more than happy to talk about altitude related issues on our holidays.

In some countries (eg: Chile) the price of domestic return flights can vary in price depending on the airline used and on the time of booking. Generally, the sooner we can book these flights, the lower the ticket cost.

To allow us to pay for these flights as soon as the trip is guaranteed, we will take an additional payment from you at the time of booking. When we pay for them, we will add the cost of these flights to your trip invoice. Any savings will be credited to your trip balance.

Although every KE trip carries a medical kit, it is advisable to bring a supply of first aid items for your own personal use. Base this on the following list, plus any special medications you may require. Please note that this list is appropriate for a long trip in a remote location and at high altitude. For a week's trek in Europe, the first seven items should be sufficient.

Insect repellent

Antiseptic cream

Suncream and total bloc

Throat lozenges or hard sweets

Painkillers

Aspirin

Paracetamol etc.

Anti-diarrhoea (Diocalm or Immodium)

Plasters (band-aids) and 'Second Skin' for blisters

Antibiotics - A broad-spectrum antibiotic (such as Ciproxin) suitable for a variety of infections. Please consult with your doctor.

On Holiday and on your Return

The standard of accommodation we use can vary from excellent 4-star hotels to basic high mountain refuges.

We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character, although in some areas this may not meet Western standards and in gites or mountain huts only dormitory accommodation may be available. This is all part of the experience of an adventure holiday and a flexible approach is required.

Where hotel accommodation is provided, this is based on twin occupancy. If you book on your own (and around 50% of all our clients do) we will arrange for you to share with a person of the same gender.

When camping, for the majority of our trips we supply spacious 2-man tents with sewn-in groundsheets. A mess tent, cook's tent, toilet tent, plates, cutlery etc. are all provided.

On Mountaineering trips that require high camps, up to 3 people may on occasion be required to share a lightweight mountain tent.

Trekking to high altitude (generally this means above 2500 metres) involves additional risk not normally associated with lower level treks.

This is not something that should prevent you from undertaking a trek in the Himalaya or Andes or any of the world's greater ranges. However, before embarking on such a holiday, it makes sense to learn about the dangers inherent in trekking at high altitude and also the ‘golden rules' to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

As part of our ongoing work to provide the best quality adventure holidays possible we would very much like to receive feedback about your experiences with KE as your comments are extremely valuable to us. We examine all points raised and discuss them with our office staff, overseas agents and trip leaders. As part of our drive to minimise environmental impact, we prefer all feedback be submitted electronically.

You will receive an email requesting your feedback on your return from holiday. Please click on the link in the email to access your personalised feedback form. Simply click to evaluate whether you feel the service you experienced was Excellent, Good, Average or Unsatisfactory and use the comments box to type in anything you would like to bring to our attention.
